I'm Dumb ^__^;

I was about to plug in my headset to do some voice chatting on YIM. I got the headphones plugged in and was about to do the same with the mic, but then.. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I guess it rubbed on another port (I think that's what it's called) and my monitor went black O_O I would say my whole computer shut down, but it wasn't off o.o The fan was going pretty loud. I tried turning it off the obvious way by pushing to on/off button, but it didn't respond o.o I freaked out to say the least ^^ I then calmed down and started thinking of how else I could turn off the computer. There must be right? I then thought back to when I accidentally turned off the computers at the library (or was it just my own) ^^ I accidentally stepped on that switch thingy that connected them all together (or just for the one I was on) ^ ^ I was really hesitant to try it in fear of making the situation worst O_O

Oh yeah, when I turned the monitor off then back on it said there was no signal, so I guess I disconnected it somehow o.o?

I finally got the nerve to try it.. and it worked ^ ^ Now I'm here laughing at myself and wanting to pretty much kick myself in the butt XDD

I was wondering though, could what happened really have been what caused all of that to happen o.o? Has anyone ever had it happen to them o.o?

Did you touch the monitor cable? You might have knocked that loose, if you were digging around in the back of the computer.

Nope, I don't think so anyway o.o Well, I mean I wasn't digging in the back or anything like that o.o Everything is pretty much in the front of the tower ^^ The ports or whatever they're called ^^; Although, it's possible I suppose ^^ There's so many wires that I'm not sure where they go o.o;

The other thing that troubles me is the roaring sound the tower made o.o Like, it was in over drive or something o.o I was starting to think it'll blow up or something if it kept it up ^^;

I just kinda accidentally hit/rub the jack with another port that was next to it and yeah.. all of that happened ~(O_O)~

It sounds like the VGA/DVI cable got knocked loose...

I know, another dumb question, but how do I check o.o? Everything seems to be ok now, but I'm just curious is all ^_^

It's the cable from your monitor to your computer. It'll connect to the back of your computer, and should fit snugly to the connector on the computer itself. Often, there are little thumbscrews on the end of the cable, to let you more securely fasten it to the computer.

Just push the cable end in the back gently in, and if it moves, it wasn't all the way in before. Don't try to force anything, though. Trying to force things to fit is how people break things.

I find this thread title to be offensive. You are definitely not dumb. You are smart young lady.

Awww, thank you :) I couldn't think of a title, and I don't have too much experience with computers, so yeah ^^ It does kinda fit :P

The title is catchy, but it puts you down. A title that suits this thread yet is very lame: "I am Inexperienced with Compys"
