I Hate Dell

Postby HwaRang777 » Sun Nov 13, 2005 4:39 pm

okay, so earlier tonight I finished writing a paper for my debate class on my mac. Since it's not hooked up to the printer, I decided to email myself and boot up my dell and print it from there. However, it is not turning on!!! I don't know much about hardware, but I checked all the electric cording and stuff, and that all seems fine. But, no!!! my dell dimension 4600 is being a pain and I can't figure out why it's not working. I have not been to any bad sites and the only thing that I could think of is that:
1) my dad goes on to korean book sites
2) have not scanned recently for spyware and viruses
3) enabling the computer to write korean, which screwed up one of my word processing apps.
4) it was turning on and off without me even touching it

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

faulty powersupply/motherboard?

it could be a number of problems. Maybe even poor electricity circutry or something in your house.

Or maybe someone is just messing with you and turning the power switch on and off (like from a lightswitch maybe?)

Some of the Dells have had faulty capacitors in their power supplies -- if it's still under warranty, take it back and request them to look at it.

I doubt it's the enabling the computer to write Korean. Mine is enabled to type Japanese and it prints fine on my computer.

He jammed some chewing gum into the power supply and it booted up. It also blows bubbles.

My brother had that problem, and it can be pretty serious. The capacitors failed and fried his motherboard and most of his peripherals.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Yeah, we've had a number of them at the hospital I work for that went south in just that manner. Dell seems to be the worst recently, though HP and even a couple Apples were reported with similar problems. Fortunately, they *usually* pop up early ... hopefully.
