Quicktime/iTunes Problem

Well, something got messed up in there real good. iTunes crashes on start now, and reinstalling it doesn't help. I think Quicktime got corrupted because when I attempt to uninstall it, I get this error message:
0x80040707
DLL function call crashed: QT Install Code: Quicktime Uninstall Proc
Anyone got any ideas? I've been thinking about just deleting the QT folder and running the registry cleaner, but I'm not sure if that's a wise solution.
It's a Windows XP Pro I'm running here.

Maybe try reinstalling Quicktime (or is that what you meant didn't work?).

Yeah the corrupted one refuses to uninstall. It seems now you can't just install a new version of QT over it, since now Apple releases as a single download with iTunes. I can uninstall the iTunes but not the QT part.

I'm really really anti-Quicktime right now. Not only does Quicktime fail it most of the time, but it screws up Java.

I've never had a problem with quick time. Of course, I try not to run some of the more warped divx encoded files through it. I use VLC for that.

I don't use it at all. I use WMP for most things, Creative Media player for Divx and WinMovieDVD 6 for DVDs. I just discovered the problem when iTunes died.
Is there anything I should be aware of if I just deleted the Quicktime folder from the Program Files in Windows? Obviously I don't want to go from corrupted iTunes to dead Operating system.

Not likely. On a windows box, you can't pull out WMP, but you should be able to nuke itunes. You may have to force WMP to be the default player for .mov files, though.

OK, I'll try it later tonight, and as for WMP and MOV, I can always use Quicktime Alternative

Well, iTunes/Quicktime didn't want to leave but they're gone now
Reinstall still won't work
So I'm not sure what it's conflicting with... maybe my new scanner, but the scanner takes priority. Apple loses a customer, as all I used it for was to buy music. It was a bit better than buying a CD, but no biggie. Hardly the first time I had trouble with Apple (The iPod Shuffle for example)
