Hi everyone who looks at this thread,

I would like to have my own website and have an area for threads on it. I hardly know anything about creating websites or how to go about getting this.

What is the most that I can get for free?

How can I do it so that I can have my own website?

Can I get the space needed to be able to include threads for free?

Not that I would pay anything just yet, but if the last answer is no, then how much would it cost me? (best to start small.)

What else, exactly do you want to do? Will you be making frequent updates? There are lots of places to get free webspace, but unless we know what you want, we really can't help you narrow them down.

Yes, by thread I suppose I do mean forum.

Can I have a main page with a couple links to other pages in a site? There would be pictures and text and on page with forums if I can have it.

Is there any thing I would need to do to put links on a site?

What is frequent for updating? One to four times a month when it's made is probably what I would want to do.

Are you looking to have your own domain name, or just a link on someone else's? There are pleanty of free hosting places around the net. You can probably pull 1 to 56 up on google. The only reason I ask about updating is to help figure out what kind of updating system you'll need. You can probably just use DW to create the files, and uploade them using an FTP client. Look into the trial version of Dreamweaver first, though, to see if you like it...

I guess I'll look for a site I can download dreamweaver from. Would you forsee needing to get a regular version of it if I like the trial version?

I guess as far as functions go, I want a site kind of like CAA in that it has links to different sections. It would be a whole lot smaller, have no games, and a bit more web blog. I would not do the search things that there are here.

If you're serious about building a site, the best thing you can do is to learn HTML.

There are plenty of sites that teach you HTML, or better yet, XHTML.

First off if your just learning how to make websites I would either recomend Tripod.com or if you wanna go a bit beyond that and get some better features http://www.GameJolt.com will host a site for you for a decent price....

But if your just learning freewebs.com and tripod.com are the best I would also recomend bravenet to be the highest quality for true HTML...so umm go with bravenet
also so you might wanna go to google.com and look at some HTML (Hyper Text Markup Laungage) tutorials or go to your nearest Barnes and Nobles and look for a good book there....after your sure you've gotten HTML down pat I would then advance into learning another laungage while still perfecting your skill with HTML (I learned HTML then PHP)

HUH? I can buy it used on AMAZON for a hundred bucks. What's this several hundred dollars thing about? If you have a school contact, you can get the education pricing - which is about $150.00 for dw mx (NEW). If you don't need the latest and greatest version (which she won't, I guarentee it), I searched ebay and found copies of DW 4.0 on ebay for $30.00, $50.00, $70.00 and $120.00 depending on who's selling it.

I've given up on trying to get people to learn HTML. I tried for 10 years, and basically people are not that interested (in general). It's not practical. You can download a trial version of DW for FREE from the macromedia web site:

It will run for 30 days, which gives you enough time to create the site. If you decide you *want* to use this tool, buy a cheap used copy.

Anyway, there are free versions of other packages that do GUI editing, but if you want something that spits out relatively nice code, dreamweaver is pretty much the only way to go.

To answer your other question, and FTP client is a program that will allow you to copy stuff you created (on your home computer) to the website. DW has an FTP client built into, though, so you don't have to even worry about that. For a first step, I'd recommend looking at other sites, and see what you want, then try to create something that has the same feel.

Oh, and to the pink bottomed script kiddies that are going to flame me for using dreamweaver: save it. I do all my own coding by hand, and have been since '94. I do my editing in vi, so save your elite-est drivel for someone who acutally deserves it. If you can hand code a better site than mine ( http://www.flactem.com/ ) in under a week, maybe I'll listen to what you have to say - but I doubt it. (Sorry if that bugs people, but I always get flamed when I tell people to look at a gui tool. Some people think they are "leet" when it comes to computers, and try to "overawe" me with useless acronym usage.)
