Cassette Tape to computer recording

Postby Mr. SmartyPants » Sun Jul 10, 2005 11:08 am

Question, how do you record something on a cassette tape to a soundfile on a computer? (Possibly without destroying the tape)

Yeah. Roxio 5 had a program (SpinDoctor) that could transfer from an headphone jack to a mic jack. It's what I used to capture anime theme songs from DVD and convert to mp3s for personal use. I'm sure the current version has the more up to date version

Take a male stereo mini to male stereo mini cable and connect the output jack of a cassette tape player to your computer's mic or line in port. Record from that port, and start the cassette player. I used Musicmatch Jukebox when I did that a lot, but there are plenty of programs that'll do it for you. It's just like recording your voice.
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

Just remember that the sound quality will be horrible, not just because you're recording from a cassette player but because if you use a normal cable for recording (like Kali's suggestion) EM interference will cause even more noise.

To add to LF's post, make sure you do NOT run the cable alongside any power cables. If you have to cross them, do it at 90 degree angels. If your stereo has a "line out" and you computer card has a "line in" then be sure to use those ports. You wont have to worry about the volume so much then...

Oh yeah... line in/out. Those were the terms I couldn't remember.
