I got some funky old board

Postby Mr. SmartyPants » Thu Mar 31, 2005 10:06 pm

so my dad comes home, and he has some random computer stuff. Including this board... Why he has it is beyond me, and he had no use, so he gave it to me.

i think it may be an old motherboard. I have NO idea what this is. It does have a heatsink, and under it a processor, so i figured it was a mobo. by the way it looks it seems pretty old to me... and some of the stuff on this board are discontinued stuff (like this Xilinx chip thingy)

its also got this funky card... i dont think it's a ram card... but im not sure, at a first glance it could be, but i dont think it's a simm, dimm, sodimm, or a rimm card...

apparently the entire thing fits into a pci slot, any idea what this thing is? and how old it is? And if its worth anything? XD

some pictures:

The lower pic looks to be a ram stick. Maybe an older SIMM?

As for the upper one, what's printed on the chips? And what kind of connectors are those on the end? (DB25?) In fact, could you post a larger picture of it?
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

ive been told by someone that it is a Xilinx Board. Go figure two of the chips say "Xilinx XC4013E PQ208" and 3 say "OPTi ViperMax 82c568" and one is a videochip i believe. ATI-264VT2

according to the website this product has been discontinued

i am guessing DB25, i got other weird cords and stuff that seem to fit (i googled imaged DB25 and i got pictures of the same cords)

Can you show us a picture of what's under that heat sink, and maybe a picture more straight on?

xilinx makes chips, so that doesn't help me too much. Someone else might know more. Those open risers look a bit like early 90s video ram chip slots, and you indicate a video chip present? That certainly looks like either a SIMM or perhaps old video cache. 2 DB 25s, eh? That could be a lot of things. Sounds to me like you've got a proprietary card there.

YMMV

Hmm. That's a new one. Perhaps it's one of those daughter boards for Macs that had a add-in wintell card?

I have no clue, really, but I just have to say that it's interesting to see Mr. SP talking in a normal manner. (No offense, Mr. SP.)

Hmm... Fishsticks is saying about what I was saying at first. If those other chips are ROM chips, it's probably a controler for some pretty expensive equipment. On the other hand, without the equipment, it's not worth much. :(

Cool. I have three suicidal toilet paper roll holders. You know how some of them spring apart? Well these have no "stop" mechanism on them. You can compress them and let one half fly across the room. The wolf was going to throw them away if you can imagine!
