LCD refresh rates?

Okay, here's the deal. My parents got me an LCD panel for Christmas (my family is pretty loose about christmas presents, and getting them early and stuff, I know)

Currently I am using some crappy CRT monitor. Actually it's not that crappy, but the refresh rate is killing my brain since I can't go past 60hz at the resolution I use.

Here's my current xorg.conf monitor section:

Okay, so I guess that is irrelevant.

I know that LCD screens work differently from CRT monitors in that they don't necessarily have a "refresh rate" like a CRT has. My question is what should I put for the refresh rates on an LCD panel? Should I delete them? Is there some standard set of numbers that you use for LCD panels? I don't want to set myself up to slowly fry my brand new panel later on or anything like that.

They still do use refresh rates. The thing with LCDs are that even if their refresh rates are low they don't 'flash'. CRTs continously flash, which is why they need higher refresh rates. LCDs just 'blur' into the screen, so your eyes will thank you.

To know what your refresh rate for your LCD monitor should be, get that manual and find the refresh rate in milliseconds, ms for short. If it's around 16ms that's 60Hz. To figure it out just do a simple math of 1000 divided by said refresh rate.

1000 / 16 = 62.5

[edit] Oh yeah, Linux is a blessing. Just set the field and if it's a nice distro it'll do the work for you. Unlikely that your LCD will melt in next few years.

Haha, glad you liked it I posted up the answer, so you can check that. As for the manual, I was bored. I think that about sums it up.

But back on topic...

LCD monitors are cool. I want one too, except that I play fast games and ghosting happens on CRTs as well sometimes...
