Suna no Kuni

I've decided to put a poem of mine on the site. ^^ It's about the desert, where my grandmother lives. It's not very good (if you want good, read Icarus's thread) but the desert means a lot to me, and I thought I'd share it with you guys.
Suna no Kuni
Sand surrounds the mountains
A gauzy veil of beige
That whips across the mountains
Rattling the sage.
The plants are few and whithered
Girdled by earth
That's dry and chipped and weathered
Untouched by rain's sweet mirth.
People fear and hate it
Longing for places of green
Wanting to be in the far fairer lands
That their eyes have seen.
But there my heart will linger
Despite its perils I understand
The desert, it is singing to me
Suna no Kuni; the land of sand.

*looks up "enjambment," Oh, that's what it means.* Thank you, both for posting your poem (post more, by the way), and for your comment. I am humbled.

I'm glad you like it, Icarus.
As a matter of fact, I did write a free-form version of it, Cephas, do you think that might be better?
I might post more, if I write anything half-way decent. ^^

This is a poem I wrote when I was in a rather morbid mood. I was going to make it about faith, hope, and love, but I got stuck on hope. -_- I may finish it eventually, but for now here's faith.
What are we without faith?
Witless.
Pointless
Walking in the dark.
Languishing in decay.
Sitting
Motionless
In our sorrow
Till time wears life away.
Faith IS life,
Faith is duty,
It gives us a reason for laboring.
I pray that God will give me more
Faith, belief unwavering.

Thanks, Icarus. I'll probably post hope tomorrow. (If I ever get it finished.)

'K, here's hope. ^^
What are we without hope?
Cowards.
Mourners.
Weeping with grief.
We think there is no end,
To the
Sorrows
We must face,
And that our hearts will never mend.
Hope is light.
Hope is relief.
It lends new strength to our ways.
I pray that God will give me more
Hope, light of our days.

I like Hope.^_^ Hope's my middle name. *hehe* I'm glad I finally noticed this thread. I liked your Sand poem too.

Arigato, Chloe, Icarus. BTW, Hope's a cool middle name to have. ^^
And I thought hope was hard to write! Writing love is giving me a headache. I'll try to get it finished, but it might take a while...

All right, I got love finished! *yay*
What are we without love?
Nothing
At all.
Hollow inside.
Empty the whole way through.
Might as
Well be
Clanging bells
For all the good we do.
Love is goodness.
Love is kindness.
It prevails where naught else could.
I pray that God will give me more
Love, essence of good.

I've written a new poem.
Ballad of the Wind
by Kesshin
In a corner of the world, away from the speech of man,
Lies a lake around which the only sound
Is the wind's song.
The great chorus of ages, never pausing,
Never skipping a beat, it makes the waves lap
Against the granite shores.
The flowers that encircle the waters sway to the music,
Twirling their petals, until they're lost to the breeze,
Unable to resist the silent melody.
The bright blue sky that caps the earth
Is filled with clouds, chased by the wind,
Fleeing across the heavens.
As I sit on the sun-warmed granite, it gives me pause to think
That such magnificent melodies are created by a gust,
A mere breath.
And when I return to the world that is filled with loud noises
A little corner of my heart is filled with the quiet
Of the wind's ballad.

Thanks, guys. ^_^ I'll write more. I really wanted Chloe to see these, though. Is it just me, or has she been gone a while?

Yeah, she told me in a pm that she was getting really busy, and would just be on to reply to her private messages and respond to threads she had started. Try pm'ing her.
Did you notice that she updated her story this morning?

Nope, didn't notice. I'll have to check that out.... It was for Eirewolf's birthday, right? Anyway, here's another poem.
Have you ever wanted to turn back the clock,
change the past just a shade?
Things you spoke better left unspoken,
things you created better left unmade.
Alas, time is a cruel thing, to which we are all subject.
It steals the brightness from young men's eyes,
causing crawling where they once stood erect.
It brings the tallest of trees to the ground,
falling, teetering from the blow of an ax.
It never pauses, never stops to relax.
Time brings silence where there was once sound.
We cannot change it, nor stop it from marching on.
We cannot alter it, nor can we blame it
when things don't go as they should have gone.
But though time is cruel as winter, keen as a knife,
remember always this one thing:
Where it brings death, God brings life.

Here's another poem. ^^ It's actually a psalm, (you know, like King David of Israel made).
I will cling on to the Lord,
Holding Him close.
He lifts me up into his arms,
away from the wolves that snap at my feet.
As long as I cling on to the Lord,
I will never fall.
Nothing can tear me from His side,
for with Him I am safe and much loved.
Who else could do this for me?
What else could do this for me?
I will cling on to the Lord,
and He will cling back.

I'm baaaaaack. I won't be for long, but I read what you wrote and I came to take a look at your stuff, Kesshin.
I love the "Ballad of the Wind." It was my fav.
>>Nope, didn't notice. I'll have to check that out.... It was for Eirewolf's birthday, right? Anyway, here's another poem.
The poem that followed this comment seems familiar, like I've read it somewhere. You're not plagiarizing, are you?:eyebrow: ...
I'm joking.
I also like your Psalm-styled poem. I know nothing of poetry, but I did enjoy reading your stuff.

I can't for the life of me figure out why I didn't respond when you posted the first one. Nice.
For the second, SWING! I don't believe I mentioned this anywhere, but I love the Psalms.
Keep swingin'.

Thanks, guys. ^^ I am running a little low on creative juice right now (and really tired). But, I'll try to write more. And about that poem seeming familiar, well.... I didn't playjerize (did I spell that right?), but I did get the idea of "a poem about time" from a poem in JRR Tolkein's 'The Hobbit'. I just thought time was a neat subject for a poem.
The psalm-style one is actually a song I wrote, with a tune and everything. But alas, to the best of my knowledge, I am incapable of sending sound waves over the internet (At least in forums, anyway. I'm not so sure about e-mail).

Here's another poem, a love poem (Yeah right, like I know anything about romantic love). It's pretty bad, but I wanted to try romantic poetry just once.
New Blaze
I felt cold,
I had everything,
What was I needing?
I had family,
I had faith,
A wonderful life I was leading.
But man is not meant
to be alone,
this I soon found to be true.
When I first found
what I was missing,
that missing thing was you.
One of the most
precious gifts
our God has given mankind
is the new blaze that burns
in our hearts
when love we finally find.

More poetry! This one's a *gulp* assigned subject poem, for school. -_- Tell me what you think.
The Spirit dwells among us (that's the assigned subject. I go to a Christian school).
The Spirit dwells among us,
and this we surely know:
When the Spirit dwells among us,
His fruits He doth bestow.
Joy and gentleness to fill our hearts,
Peace and patience to give us rest.
Kindness, goodness, and self-control,
but of His fruits, Love is best.

Not bad. I think you could leave out the "that" at the start of the third line, and change the preceding semi-colon to a colon. It works either way. //End grammatical and or technical mode.

I edited it, Icarus. Thanks. ^^
And now, a new poem!
Snowflakes fell, dusting my head,
"It's too warm to stick," they said.
"We're both learned, and very well read,
It never snows here."
"Are you sure?" I asked, watching the sky.
"Oh, yes, of course," came their reply,
"Winter here is as warm as July,
It never snows here."
"Really?" I said, watching it grow.
"Certainly, dear, we happen to know,
The climate's far too hot for snow,
It never snows here."
"All right, I guess, if that's what you say,"
And then much to their shocked dismay,
I ran out into the snow to play.
And it never snows here.
