"Comfort and Feelings" - a poem inspired by an online friend.

Trust. Is there such a thing
when one person can fully believe?
Just truly believe that harm will never
befall them from a friend, or neighbor.

I don’t know, or fully understand why,
but I feel like I can trust you.
You don’t scare me;
you have never made me feel uneasy.

You never asked for my trust,
though I may have asked for yours.
You may ask me to jump and I’ll do it,
but I might ask you to trust me to catch you.

You have never thought ill of me,
at least not that I know of.
And I don’t remember ever wishing ill of you,
though we may have different opinions on things.

Compassion. What is that?
I know it isn’t something to toy with.
Yet whatever it is,
I know I feel it for you.

I feel as though I have known
you all of my short life.
Even though I know, and realize
that we have just met.

I feel comfortable to
just be around you.
Talking about anything,
nothing, and everything.

And even though we have just met,
I seem to have earned everything.
Everything I could ever have
asked for in someone like you.

Trust, for making me feel wanted,
and not making a fool out of me.
And also the love of one who wants,
or wouldn’t mind, you for a brother or a sister.

Yes, whoever invented two
such fine emotions was right.
Of course He was right, for He feels
the same way about me, as I do of you.
