Butterfly:Transformed.(Inspirational Poem)

This morning I woke with the sun, lifted my face to catch it’s soft rays and smiled…
Today is the day.
I thought to myself as I tried to choose my clothes honestly (for a change)
I tried to capture my true self, through them I would tell the world who I really was.
Far too long I’d kept my soul locked in a cage of uniformity because I was afraid,
Far too long I’d kept my head down and my thoughts silent,
Some thought I was shy, some thought I was arrogant,
So that’s what I became.
Funny how that works,
I said to my reflection,
As I fingered my chin length hair,
Which had been long since I came here nine years ago,
It’s been too long,
My friends agreed when they met me at the corner,
They already knew that ‘other side’ of me,
Because they’d taken the time to find it, something none others had,
Nevertheless, they approved.
Happy were they to see me,
Butterfly transformed.
They walk close to me,
In strong assurance that someone’s on my side.
I grin widely, waking down the halls with my head held high:
I’m not going to hide anymore.
Today is the day.
I thought to myself as I tried to choose my clothes honestly (for a change)
I tried to capture my true self, through them I would tell the world who I really was.
Far too long I’d kept my soul locked in a cage of uniformity because I was afraid,
