Immortal Rain

Postby Mangafanatic » Wed Jun 30, 2004 3:00 pm

A couple of months ago I read the synopsis for "Immortal Rain" which has just been released by (if I'm not mistaken) Tokyopop. The synopsis, the story of a criminal who lives forever and the female bounty hunter who hunts him down, seemed interesting. I picked up the first volume, but I never finished it first because it was, IMHO, unbelieveably boring and second because of the shocking language. It was rated teen but I counted something like four F-words. Eeek. So I jus tthought I'd throw that info out there in case anyone sees it on the shelf and wonders as I did.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

It did look interesting. Thanks for the head's up. I'll probably end up checking it out sometime, unless more of the manga I've been waiting for comes out. ^_^

The choice has been made. There's no looking back. I won't let up, back up, give up, or shut up. My focus clear. My path is straight. My God, reliable. I'm a disciple of Christ.

Gods plan is like the sun. its too big and bright to look at directly, and sometimes the rain clouds cover it, but sometimes the plan dapples through the clouds and we can see beautiful glimpses of what he has in store for us.

I read it. I don't remember all these words youre talking about... *goes and gets her book*... hmm... *flip*

*snaps book shut* As I cannot find the four f- words of which you speak I will go back and reread it. I did see one H- word, and I remember one b- word. *thinks* There wasn't too much blood as I remember. There was fighting, but since Rain is an Immortal there is a time he covers Machika (the girl) when they are being fired at by the evil people.

I actually thought this was a good book. At first, when I picked it up, I was like.. "Oh yeah..uhhuh.. how wonderful. A book with no new plot." But when I flipped through it I thought the art was good, and started wondering why certain parts where happening. So I went back and actually read the first couple pages. (I never read whole books in stores...-.-)

There is an element in it where you find that Rain (the immortal) has a silver cross attached to his chest. He says its his punishment for 'eating an angel'. >_. yeah I didn't really get that either. But then you find out that there is a place where there are certain kinds of immortals called 'angels' who are frozen in a certain place that Rain and Machika are trying to find. It's actually an interesting story I thought.

Though I wouldn't let a child too young read it, I still think it... oh yeah wait. I forgot. There's a weird girl obsessed with the head of her dead love. >_. yeah i thought that was kinda wierd. x_x But.. still.. read it or not, thats your decision. ^-^

Aviento!

Hmmm. . . um, I'm like %99.99999 sure that they were there. I mean, I could have invented one, but I don't think I could possibly just image three. I very rarely hallucinate, and when I do-- it's generally buff bishies appearing at my door and not F- words. But, you own the books]*Sigh* I'm still waiting for the Noir Manga..[/quote]
Now that would rock! Is there even such a thing. . . I wonder.

I didn't post this thread to bash Immortal Rain. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up who might want one. Language really bothers me and so I was just really upset and shocked to find any number of F-words in a TEEN manga.

Immortal Rain sounds like a pretty good story to me, but I haven't checked it out. Judging by your comments though, "The pen" is in order, ne?

AngelSakura: bummer that you can't get OT's but thats probably for a good reason. I hope anyway.

Speaking of which I don't even know what the ones I have are rated.
*Dashes away and looks*
Cool! I only have two OT manga: Negima, which I seriously and thinking of getting rid of, and Juvenille Orion #2.

On the other hand I've probably read a lot of OT manga.. Chobits for example.

Yeito, That Avatar is cool!! Probably wouldn't use if for me though.

Yes, indeed. TIf you buy it, you'd probably want to "the pen" it. Or atleast, I would.

Your welcome, and I will look into this "Immortal Rain" further and see if my growing "clan" of anime fans deems it worthy. :) (I loan out almost all my manga to close friends.)

Although, it seems you like it so that should be good enough proof. :)

I flipped through immortal rain vol.2 and I guise I could be wrong but near the back there was a detailed shot of michika from the front [it went by really fast] and no I don't mean her cloths were detailed. So I'd recommend looking at it before you buy it if that would bother you.
