I just thought of a neat idea. Post your top five favorite current manga titles! Also note that everyone's list is subject to change
In order:
1. Monster. A perfect, well written psychological thriller. Spans 18 volumes long, and oh so good! Definately my favorite manga and anime. Urasawa Naoki is the best mangaka ever!
2. Happy! I am beginning to enjoy Urasawa Naoki's other work. Synopsis:
One day the Yakuza comes knocking on the door of the orphaned Umino siblings. The oldest brother has gone into hiding after acquiring a huge debt. Afraid for her brother, Miyuki agrees to take responsibility for the loan. The yakuza wants her to become a ho, Miyuki wants to be a tennis pro. Turns out she used to be a very promising player before her parents died. However, becoming a pro is difficult when friends are few and everybody else conspires to make Miyuki's life hell.
I love how urasawa always uses ordinary people who have to overcome their situations.
3. Azumanga Daioh! Who DOESN'T love it?
4. 20th Century Boys. It is just sheer amazement. Also by Urasawa Naoki. Another good psychological thriller. Less attached to reality though. But nonetheless amazing.
5. Tie between Yotsubato and Death Note. Both are good, totally different genres. Yotsubato being wacky, comical, and lighthearted like Azumanga Daioh. Death Note being an awesome logical thriller.

Yeah, shame the publisher went out of business... there's 40+ volumes in Japan. And to get the anime I have to import from Australia ("PG: may be inappropriate for viewers under 15" according to their rating board)

Not necessarily in order...
1 Alichino
Beautiful and delicate artwork. The story is serious and a little sad, the more I think about it the more interesting it becomes.
2 Shutter box
The first two volumes weren’t that good, but in the third the story became more complicated. I also love the main character’s outfits. ^-^
3 Tsubasa
Just an all around good adventure/romance
4 Kingdom Come online comic
Christian manga!
5 Airshell online comic
Some of the most beautiful art I have ever seen and a interesting mystery [is the main character crazy or is there really something wrong with the sky?]. It is available in print

It was known as Pokemon Adventures in the states. Viz licenced it and released the first 7 volumes and then cancelled the series at the end of the Yellow arc *kicks Viz*. The english version of the series kept running in China and Korea, and I was able to get post volume 7 graphic novels from a friend who lives over there. The first arc (Red/Blue/Green, volumes 1-3) was pretty simple in the artwork and plot, but then the Yellow arc (4-7) came along with a pretty good original plot and action sequences. And then the 3rd arc started and...it was magic!!! A great plot, dynamic characters, awesome action sequences, cameo apperances up the wazoo, and a HUGE epic battle at the end. Viz should be punished for depriving American pokemon fans of the rest of this amazing series! In Japan its going storng and seems like it ill keep going forever ^^. Volume 22 will conclude the Ruby/Saphire story arc, and then the graphic novels will start in on Fire Red/Leaf Green and Emerald, while the serialization moves on to Diamond/Pearl and possibly Ranger.

oh. now i know what you're talking about. yeah. i'm a big fan of pokemon adventures too. i've only read up to volume 7 cause i can't find anywhere that has the other volumes. i might consider just buying them but i'm not sure yet. yep. it's an excellent series, especially for pokemon. i still can't believe they cancelled the series after volume 7 ended. darn...
