A Good Manga... and then it happens

How many times has this happened to you? Your reading what you think is great manga. I mean, the jokes are hilarious, the anime is superb, and the storyline is amazing. You get to page 30, and then you flip the page to find... naked characters!!! ahh!!! I mean... is that really necessary?!?!?!? How many times has it happened to you, and how did you react? Did you continue reading it hoping it would get better, closingyour eyes to the nakedness, or did you shut it immediatly?

Ohhhhh yeah! I get that all the time!! Not necesarily manga but artbooks and anime as well. You're watching/reading/drooling over the lovely art, great characters and fun plot and suddenly, out of the blue, all the unnecessary *fanservicey* nudity exposes themselves in all their glory.
In the case of nudity, I usually continue to read it hoping it would get better. But if I see that a few more times after that, amplified with premarital sex? NO MORE. -_-;;;

Guahhhhh!!!!! I despise that so much!!!! *sobs*
Just once, ONCE!!! I would like to find a great story that is not corrupted by some form of that useless trash!!!! *sobs some more* (I have found good stories, but why do they always do that to the Great ones!?)
That is probably the number one reason why my wife won’t watch most anime with me. Those instances when you think every thing is great, good story, great art, fun characters, clean humor, and then BAM! Some naked or half naked scene leaps out at you.
I remember feeling really embarrassed. Because I don’t think that kind of stuff is cool, but here it is, right in the show I’m watching with my friends. Now I feel like I have to ‘screen’ anything before I watch it with some one else…
Even if its not ‘premarital sex’, I still don’t want to see it…
Gah! This whole thing really bugs me.

yeah... its almost as if you want them to delete those scenes entirely. That would be cool if they make something that can delete those scenes in anime. Or a company who makes preedited anime, for christians... hmmm... what do you think?

Man that happens with way too many mangas...For me it depends if it's fanservicy...There is some nudity that I'm ok with...Like in "clean" anatomy books. but I've been trying to keep away from the ones with nudity. That'd be cool if they edited that stuff better.

I know EXACTICALLY hoe you guys feel. I don't read much manga, but I've been in that exact situation with manga drawing books.

When it really bugs me in a comic book, I cover the square or page with an image (I'm am not missing anything because those things usually have nothing to do with the stories~)

Yeah. . . this thread's totally being moved.
Well, I generally quit reading a manga when that happens. But, honestly, very rarely can we say we didn't have any warning. I mean, if you pick a older teen (or a teen, for that matter) rated manga. it will probably have some level or nudity. We are warned. (plus, if wanna avoid being shocked, ask about a manga in the manga forum before you read it. We'll help you as best we can.
)

I'll scan through manga before actually purchasing or reading it. A quick flip-through will usually make it clear what's in the manga as far as art content.

This has happened quite a bit to me, though I generally don't just randomly read manga. But friends do give it to me at random, and I feel obligated to read it.
I agree, move the thread.

*sigh*
You have stumbled upon a very good point . . . I have had this happen way too much before . . . some examples are Alice 19th and Fushigi Yugi . . . they are so good and get you hooked then BAM! there it goes . . . so sad . . . You can edit the manga however by using the pen or sharoie on it ^^ very good way to edit your own manga ^^
Yes and definitley watch the ratings . . . T you can or may not have bad stuff, OT you will have bad stuff . . .
*cries*

Yeah... and the hardest part is, you want to read the rest of the storyline, but you feel in your spirit that you shouldnt cause more bad stuff might be somewhere else within the paper covers of the book

I know how it is. *sigh* Uber annoying.
:wonders how much to say: Hm..
Well I usually close the book a moment at least. If its really bad I don't want to finish it. If its not what ya'll said 'fanservicy' then i'll skip that block and go on. But.. my reason for not liking it is cause.... I've had some problems with that. I don't really think anyone on here knew (_ _) but I suppose the truth has to come out sometime.
It's a rather long story, and I think I'm finally progressing in my battle against it. So thats the good thing. I do my best to stand strong, and I've actually taken a kind of leave from reading or watching anime/manga for a while. Just cause I kept running into stuff like that when I least expected it. I still come on here to just see whats new and how everyone is.
Well... I'm sorry that this never came up before or anything. (_ _) maybe I should have done one of those things where you introduce yourself and stuff... I'm really sorry. I'll go now. Bye for now..

I've had that problem a few times before in my drawing books. It's really sad. I usually just try not to look at that page. The Japanese are more tollerant of nudity then we are, unfortunately. To a Nihonjin, Looking at pornography is an ordinarry thing. I think they might need our prayers most of all.
Anyway, right now I'm only using up forum space, so I'll stop talking now.

I usually have to look away at least for a moment, but if it doesn't look like it'll be a major theme, I'll stick with the manga. That's why I tend to keep sticky tabs handy, after all. Sometimes when I have friends or siblings in my room, they flip randomly through my manga, and I'd prefer they accidentally run across a post-it-censored page than a full-out moment of fanservice. (And, personally, I'd rather it be that way when I read it too.)

I've only recently really gotten into reading manga and watching anime. (Before I just watched anime on TV, so it was, of course, edited and things like that.) So far, I haven't seen any nudity--mostly because I've been so careful about what I read or watch. (For example, even though my friend likes Chobits, he was quick to say "Don't read it, you won't like it.") I wouldn't be surprised if I accidentally run into it one of these days. ^^;;; My greatest fear is that I'll rent out something or get something from my library, and my parents will walk in the room and RIGHT THEN nudity will happen.

u_u; I usually dog ear the offending page with nudity and make a point to skip it next time. It's the best I can do - I'd feel terrible ripping or marking up my manga.

This may have been posted here before, but one of Murphy's laws of anime (which also applies to manga) is that if a series has any nudity or fanservice whatsoever the person most likely to be offended will walk in at the very moment it appears. I've found this to be surprisingly true...

This is a bacic rule of manga reading/anime viewing. The person mostly likely to be offended by a portion of manga/anime will be the one person who will walk in that
the most suggestive moments. Never fails.
*looks up at UC's post* Oh, dang! He beat me to it! Oh well, it deserves repeating.
Luckily, atleast with manga, you can avoid that simply by flipping through it before yor buy it. Or---- you could go to the manga forum and ask the wonderful people if there's any nudity in the manga you're thinking about reading! Yay for the Manga forum!!!!

I'm curious, what's the difference between ripping a page out of your manga and never reading it again, or skipping over it everytime and never reading it again?

I have to even be careful what I flip through in stores. Many of my friends are not Christian in any way, so they naturally assume what I consider the worst. I would hate to have one of them glance over my shoulder and comment, "Oh, looking at anime porn?"
Mangafanatic wrote:I'm curious, what's the difference between ripping a page out of your manga and never reading it again, or skipping over it everytime and never reading it again?
With the former, anyone else who reads the manga cannot read it, and anyone flipping through the manga will not come across it.

Well, ripping out a page, you loose the other side of it... I'd just mark it over... then again, I wouldn't be one to by "Mature" manga, if you can call it that.

I dislike ripping pages out of ANY books, because I think the author, no matter how much I object with them, deserves a smidge of my respect. And with that respect I should honor their books and their work and keep them intact. Just a personal idiosyncracy.

Yes, any book that somehow manages to make me feel like it doesn't deserve my respect will be quickly returned to the bookstore.

I'm respecting them by buying their works and not downloading them off the internet, IMHO. Simply drawing a nighty on their scantily clad ladies is still honoring the work. Just my two cents.
