I would recommend Naruto and Rurouni Kenshin, then. ^_^ (They are both a tad graphic in some violence scenes, however, so please beware if that is something you don't like.)

I've always liked Steam Detectives, myself. Sort of like what Batman would look like in a steampunk/Studio Ghibli universe.

Naruto is excellent. I don't know what your standards are; if you can accept alot of 'questionable' things, I'd recommend Neon Genesis Evangelion (excellent translation, esp. for a Viz title). I also thought Big O was a decent 'giant robot' action title; it's very clean (especially when compared to Evangelion, heh-heh) and has good characters.

What exactly was Big O about. I've got so many story lines adrift in my head, that I confuse them.

It was about a city where, 40 years ago, all the inhabitants lost all memories and records of their history. The main char., Roger Smith, is the city's top negotiator. In between negotiating, he kicks butt in a giant black robot called Big O. The story revolves around his search for the meaning of his own existence and his grappling with memories from before 40 years ago that he spontaneously acquires. Other dudes with giant robots want to grasp the meaning behind life too, so they generally try to destroy or conquer the city. Roger's all like, "We ain't havin' that," and breaks out with some Big O beatings.
it's cool. he's got a robot for a main squeeze, a transforming car and a robot with rocket punches. What else could you want?
