i am currently halfway through reading volume 21 right now.
i'm finding the latest arc of this series to be quite dark in terms of spiritual content. the way Lord Mozgus continues to use terms "faith in God" and stuff like that is quite insulting, as he is a minor antagonist in the series. i'm finding some of the dark religious material to be rather blasphemous...

Which arc is that again? I don't particularly recall any period in the manga that struck me the same way and I definitely don't remember the antagonist (non-important ones tend to have short life spans). But give me some details in spoiler tags and I'm sure I'll recall it.
As far as being blasphemous, though, Berserk is essentially based on a pure evil cosmology. Ignoring the Idea of Evil and the Godhand, the world is essentially godless.

[spoiler]it's basically the arc involving the reuniting of Caska and Gutts. the arc introduces several prostitutes who befriend and protect Caska (as her memory has not yet returned). the arc involves the pagan witch hunts where that one evil priest named Mozgus kills unfaithful criminals with harsh and painful torture devices. he ends up almost killing Caska and Gutts fights him in order to save her.[/spoiler]
anyways, i just read volume 22 and...
[spoiler]griffith is back!!!!!!!!![/spoiler]
it should be interesting to see what Farneze, and that other guy with squinty eyes, end up doing. and with the start of the next arc, things should start to get really interesting. i still want to see Gutts and the squinty eyed guy face off again. [spoiler]that last fight with them was pretty intense. the squinty eyed guy is pretty cool[/spoiler]

anyways, Serpico is definitely one of my favorite characters. i'm really excited to see how his relationship with Gutts will change, and i'm dying to see them face off again. it's really cool to see that part of serpico's past is revealed in volume 22. it seems like these "squinty eyed" characters are in a lot of mangas.

The Bachelor Prince, by Debbie Macomber & Misao Hoshiai, a Harlequin "pink" manga. (Violet is ages 16 and up, but Pink is 12 and up, i.e. 'sweet' romance, not dirty. I was pleasantly surprised by this title. But I don't want to try Violets.)
I was surprised by how much I liked it! I thought the story was amazingly clean for a non-christian thing. (There was one place where I was disappointed by a choice of the heroine.)

heh. good luck with that manga. i didn't enjoy it as much as i wanted to. there were too many characters and it was quite confusing. the action sequences were a little too fast-paced and thus, hard to understand and comprehend. it could've turned out to be a really good epic manga, but it ended quite abruptly. heard the anime's pretty good but i haven't personally tried it...

Be aware that Basilisk is essentially nothing but a bunch of ninja killing each other. That's the entire story except for an uninspired romantic subplot. There will be no real plot or character development at all. But if you're interested in the various powers or just want well-created action sequences (I thought they were interesting, myself) it might be worth continuing to read. Overall, though, I can't recommend the series very highly.

Yes, I figured as much.
I read the whole of the first volume. The first chapter actually gave me somewhat high hopes for what the series might be, but I've sence then been somewhat disappointed with the next five chapters.
Jury's out on this one.
