Christian Metal lyrics that don't sound Christian

Postby roadoffew » Sun Feb 22, 2009 12:08 pm

I'm halfway interest in doing a project that includes Christian metal songs which contains lyrics that to some people may seem the opposite of Christian or just Secular in nature. I couldn't find that many off in my list of music. All I found were these songs/lyrics;

"God saves us, God save us from your chosen ones" from sanctuary hums by Project 86

"It's what jesus said about hell underneath, I think I rather believe it's some imaginary place..." from Timothy by As Cities Burn

"How do you like your God now? Now that he is you? Does he fell Dead some How?" from painting by Blindside

"I got blood on my shoes from another man I killed while he was sleeping.." from Kings by Chasing Victory

"You with the Bible belt buckling the knees of the world and your rattletrap dogma in tow. You with the tie and that smile and the green in your eyes
Selling Jesus on your TV show. Fanatics and whores!" from Fanatics and whores by The Showdown.

If you know of any songs that fit this please post them including the song title, Artist, and the exact lyrics.

NOTICEThe following bands have been in rotation in the Christian market and have had interviews where they shared their faith. The lyrics are both out of context or disscusing deep issues of trial of faith through difficult times and expressing the emotion as they were.

Was there a reason why this was in Goof Off? Regardless, moved to Jam Session.

May I ask what the purpose of this project is? It is not too difficult to take random lyrics out of context and make them sound anti-Christian, but why?

Fiends by Chasing Victory can be taken badly
Hold out your hand baby, close you eyes, I'm gonna take you on a journey tonight

In fact the entire song is rather interesting... >.>
Status: Lurker.... but I'll be around.

God is Dead by power metal band Vision Divine... They aren't a Christian band perse but they do have a lot of faith based songs. Anyway this song kind of threw me off till I actually read the lyrics and figured out what it's REALLY about...

The lyrics...

I assume I’ll disappear…

How dare you to drive me away?
So you think you can live without me…
I may not deserve your love…
Alright then, you got it

Come to me, my faithful sons
Angels, close the gates of Heaven
Seal them ”Seven Seven Seven”
Let ‘em get just what they want

Don’t you call my name, I won’t answer
You won’t find me right there by your side
From now on you’re just left on your own
Take your freedom, now I’m done
Don’t look for my presence in Churches
They’re no longer my home anymore
Just take your new life, and live on your own
Yeah, here’s the news for you… God is dead!

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
Like it was meant to be
So you think you found the key
And own all the answers

Come to me, my faithful sons
Angels, close the gates of Heaven
Seal them ”seven seven seven”
Let ‘em get just what they want

Don’t you call my name, I won’t answer
You won’t find me right there by your side
From now on you’re just left on your own
Take your freedom, now I’m done
Don’t look for my presence in Churches
They’re no longer my home anymore
Just take your new life, and live on your own
Yeah, here’s the news for you… God is dead!

Don’t you call my name, I won’t answer
You won’t find me right there by your side
From now on you’re just left on your own
Take your freedom, now I’m done
Don’t look for my presence in Churches
They’re no longer my home anymore
Just take your new life, and live on your own
(On your own…)
Yeah, here’s the news for you… God is dead!
Yeah!!!

A lot of people just hear "God is dead!" during the chorus and really think its an anti-religious song. But if you read the lyrics, it's really not an anti-Christian song at all. Of course I guess it could be interpreted differently by non-Christians but anyway...

Oh Sleeper released lyrics to there concept album "Sun of the Morning" which starts with a song with Satan making claims toward God (with the chorus being God's answer) and the rest are songs of God speaking to different people to build up his army and the last song being God's Final statement to Satan.
I just thought I explain that before posting some lyrics from that album.

"Hear me now, weak forgiver. Hear me now
Don't send an angel to face the devil...
.... I (D-word) your son for stealing my light.
This world is mine...
They call me the son of the morning.
I can mound all your fallen past the clouds as they roll in,"

-Son of the Morning

"But years passed when i saw Eve next to me,
she's wrapped in low-cut, dripping sensuality."

-A BANQUET FOR TRAITORS

Well the original project was some music product the consisted of song like the one's I've posted. Though I'm not doing the project now the reason was to get people to dig deeper and see why these artist say these things and, in some cases, become stronger in thier faith. It would also get people to discuss the issues the lyrics deal with. (also it's fun when you meet someone online who openly mocks christian music for having nothing to say but "God Rocks" and you show them these lyrics)

Good song by the way.

"This is what I want, for you to die" - Disciple, "Regime Change"

"Glory, glorious. Aren't we glory, glorious? Aren't we worthy, worthy of, hearts at our feet?" - Ac Cities Burn. I forgot the song title, but it's one of the first 3 tracks on Come now Sleep.

There's tons of lyrics that are like that. Like someone pointed out, it's not difficult to take things out of context at all. When I first found Oh, Sleeper's CD "When I Am God" I was a bit unsettled by the title, it felt blasphemous. Upon actually listening to the lyrics of "Vices Like Vipers", however, I realized my error.

Die Religion Die by Brian Head Welch reaaaaaaaaally doesn't sound Christian if you don't understand the point he's trying to make. And yes he is a Christian, you should check out his Autobiography, Save Me From Myself.
Anyways, some of the lyrics are:

"I'm sick of all your rules
They're so man made
You treat them all like fools
You put my name to shame
I'm everything you're not
I give them love
My ways you have forgot
You put yourselves above

I'll testify
It's time to see Religion die
The truth can't lie
It's time to see Religion die
Who cares?
Who's right?
It's time to see Religion die
I'll crush the fight
It's time to see Religion die"
