Which decade of rock n roll do you like best? To help you out, here are some musicians I think best represent the history of rock from each decade:
50's: Bill Haley and the Comets, Elvis Presley
60's: Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, The Beatles, Crosby Stills Nash (and sometimes;)) Young; The Doors
70's: Aerosmith, The B-52s, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
80's: Duran Duran, Loverboy, Van Halen, Metallica, Def Leppard, Red Hot Chilli Peppers
90's: Nirvana, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam
Current: any you can think of

The fact that Pink Floyd is not on your list, makes me not vote.

I'd say current era, for my tastes. Anberlin, Jimmy Eat World (though they were part of the 90's as well), Mae, The Format, and a LOT more, all good bands that I love listening to. XD

I gave in, and voted 70s. Music was just crazy back then. While I am too young to probably completely appreciate it...Being a huge Pink Floyd fan, I felt I should poke the 70s button.

My love for Pink Floyd and Smashing Pumpkins is tied.
Can't decide.

Even though I appreciate Pink Floyd, I compare them to Thrice, or Genesis to Killswitch Engage, or Yes to Zao, and I have to side with the current era. I know a lot of people are really fond of the 70's, but I really do think our era is making better music. As a race, we are always getting better at the things we've decided to do and pass on. Music is one of those things.

I disagree. I think we are making *more* music. With the digitial age, a couple kids in a garage on the other side of the world can share music with someone in China. I think we made just as much good music in the 70s, as the 80s, 90s, or now. I think as people change, music changes. I will however say, that we have a ton of garbage out right now. And it is sometimes hard to weed through it. But I don't think that means we have less good music then ages past. But pound for pound good music, I really believe that stays fairly constant. *shrugs*

Current. I like a lot of bands that are currently out there, in the way of rock.

Well, let's think about this logistically;

Today there are more bands, either pro, or in a garage.

With more bands, comes more garbage.


All things being even; with more bands, comes more good music.


Though I think we are getting better with music {just as I think we are better in our century than in the previous}.

Yes, but if we get more good bands, we get more garbage. Thus the ratio of good music to garbage is really about the same.

True, true. I suppose if all things are even, then you get the same ratio. However, I still think that we are getting better at music always. I suppose that's why my vote is still in Current.

60s all the way (I'm sorry, but I can see no upward trends)

The 70's,80's,and early 90's were the best eras for Rock. The early to mid 90's was the best era for Rap.

I'm pretty much a '90s kid. Rage Against the Machine, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Green Day, Stone Temple Pilots (preferably the early works of those last two).
On the Christian scene, there was Circle of Dust, Argyle Park/ AP2, Five Iron Frenzy...
This is the stuff I grew up on. Though at the risk of committing musical blasphemy for my generation, I'll say that I never did like Nirvana or Pearl Jam. Anyway, I never had much use for my dad's vinyl LP shelf, although I did get Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers out of it.

80's brought the Dead Kennedys and Suicidal Tendencies, as well as Iron Maiden, so there yeh go.

My vote goes to the 60s, but it does not encompass all of my favored music.

Out of curiosity... what exactly did the crop of the 50's yield?

Current all the way. I occasionally enjoy some stuff from other eras, but there is very little in my collection.

I hate All music that mocks God and his Son Jesus Christ..As well as tunes that Glorify evil things.

Sorry I just had to say It. Anyway,I love Classic Michael Jackson. He's one of the reason's why I love the 80's music. I have a lot of favorite 80's Rock songs.I also liked some Rock songs from the Early 90's

70's. Pedantry aside, Led Zeppelin belongs there, even though (or rather, because) they started in 1968.
