CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

Shot in the dark, but does anyone else listen to Ms. McKennitt? I'm rather new to her music myself, but first heard part of her song 'Mummer's Dance' on the trailer for the movie Ever After(that trailer is awesome..hands down) and researched obsessively to figure out who was singing.

Anyway, the style of music is celtic/folk apparently, and quite beautiful. Listneing to 'Book of Secrets' right now. good stuff ^_^

so yeah....has anyone else heard/heard of her??

Yup, I've heard of her! I think perhaps she's a bit better known up here in Canada, especially to Celtic music fans like me. For a while Mummer's Dance was being played half to death on the local radio

I found 'The Book of Secrets' in my dad's cd collection a couple of years back and it's been in my room by my stereo ever since. All of the songs are very strong, although my absolute favorite has to be Dante's Prayer, I think it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. La Serenissima is also very pretty, Marco Polo is so..exotic and the Highwayman always makes me giggle because it's so over the top (for goodness sakes, it's over ten minutes long!). I also think Skellig is so mournful, heck, I'm realizing I love the whole cd. I actually dug it out and I'm listening to it right now. *is forseeing an attack on the 'What are you listening to?' thread*

It's definitely one of her strongest and most consistent works, although her earlier stuff is pretty good too. I just love listening to this cd whenever I'm reading or daydreaming, and especially when I'm drawing.

Celtic/Folk is definitely one of my favorite musical genres, I just love the variety, and how the songs seem to have so much history behind them, they seem almost timeless.

*grin* yup! I love music with historical or ethnic flavor, specially when i'm in a daydreamy/thoughtful mood and need something that reflects that.
hm...I LOVE the Highwayman, because of how it's a poem turned into song. The Lady of Shalot is the same way...awesomeness..

Now I need to listen to Dante's Prayer. Marco Polo is indeed awesome.

And yeah..I haven't listened to much celtic/folk, but I've just found myself randomly addicted. Got a couple of Ms Mckennitt's CDs, enya, adiemus(only heard one song by them so far..)etc from the library yesterday.

Speaking of such things....have you heard of Bill Douglas? I found his song 'Return to Inishmore' on someone's xanga and fell very in love. if you've not heard of him..look him up or ask me for this song or something lol, it's great. Now i'm trying to find one of his CDs to buy. ^_^
