Frank Zappa (The Mothers of Invention)- I think alot of people are like, "What the heck? shut up and play yer guitar Frank!" but I've always thought his vocals were really cool.

Danny Elfman (Oingo Boingo) - This guy can go all over he place and make his voice do a bunch of really cool things.
"To be a good listener, you must acquire a musical culture...you must be familiar with the history and development of music, you must listen...to receive music you have to open your ears and wait for the music, you must believe that it is something you need ...to listen is an effort, and just to hear has no merit. A duck hears also." - Igor Stravinsky

Roy Khan from one of my favorite bands, Kamelot, hands down. He's got great range while still sounding like a man even when he's going high.

Him singing Karma and then taking his voice down a bit for Abandonded. And then him going up pretty high for the intro of Edge of Paradise.

And did I mention he sounds much better live than on the studio albums? So ya he gets my vote. I wish I sounded like him but alas, I do not :'(. Oh well...

Of course, you realize that guitars have been used in many types of music before and after the advent of rock and roll, yes?

Also, Billy Joel is a pop singer. An excellent pop singer and one of my favorite vocalists overall, but definitely pop.

However, I think in recent times genre boundaries have become extremely blurred so as to make them nearly meaningless, especially when people want to create so many new sub-genres. With bands encompassing so many different nuances and influences, one has to agree with Billy Joel that "there's a new band in town, but you can't get the sound from a story in a magazine . . ."

I actually don't listen to much rock and roll. Mostly because most rock and roll vocalists annoy me. The band "Stereo Motion", did have a pretty good singer, however. It is a pity they only released one album.

Bryan Nance:
Rock song.
Slow song.

Also, I noticed that this is Rocklobster's 500th thread. Quite a milestone.

How could I forget Gilmour!? Well... Too late now.

I also kinda forgot Kurt Cobain. Even though he is Grunge, it is a variation of Rock, and also, he's just awesome.
