The Wonders - fact or fiction

N oreally^^ I have NO idea now. When I first say the movie That Thing You Do, I thought it was real... then I heard otherwise... Looked up some websites and according to Wiki, The Wonders WERE a real band in the 60s, had a one-hit wonder, and that was it. But every other site I see refers to them as a fictional band of Tom Hank's creation, basically.
So... does anyone know the truth?

Both.

There was a real band, but the movie band is entirely fictional. The songs in the movie were all written and performed by Adam Schlesinger, known now as the lead vocalist of Fountains of Wayne.

I forgot to check back at this thread^^ And oh ok I gotcha^^ I was wondering why I couldn't find too much info on the real band... doesn't look like they were too famous then or at least, I wonder what their hit song was...
