Happy SYATP!

Suprisingly I didn't see a thread for this yet. See You At The Pole is a Christian holiday were students gather at flagpoles at their school and pray for the school, and worship God together. It usually happens once a year in September. Today was my first time going to SYATP and I was gladly surprised by the number of students there. It was really nice to know there were more Christians in my school. Did anyone else here celebrate today? Also, what was the reaction at school? At my school I thought it was weird that some people said they were offended. We did not force them to join us, we did not condem anyone. I kind of get the feeling if it were a different group meeting they wouldn't care. What are your thoughts on SYATP?

Getting offended over people communally praying is stupid.
Props to people praying. It's a good thing.

I think it's a pretty great idea. But I don't go to school so I obviously couldn't participate. :p

That's awesome that you did it! There's so little that Christian students can do in the school setting nowadays to share their faith, and even this day is in danger.

Yes, and it doesn't even make sense that people would be offended! I think if it were another club meeting people wouldn't care, but I'm proud to stand for my faith and pray for those who persecute me.

Actually you can, it's not just for students it's for anybody that wants to worship God, just go to a school, or other area that's doing it and join in.
Also I think TWWK was talking about this day I mean I was the only one at my school that wanted to do it.
I really wanted to do that today but when I got to school it didn't happen...
I was the only one that thought about it at my school apparently...
also my christian club at school stopped cause both teachers that overlooked it are now gone so I have to arrange one that's out of the school unless I find a teacher willing.
I love standing up for my faith and being the kid everyone knows that does, but it'd be cool to see others taking initiative too.
These will get better in the future, I will do something!

I'm sure an almost 30-year-old man showing up at a high school won't look creepy
at all!

it happened a couple years ago at my school, no one seemed to mind BUT I also live in Canada so that could be different too.

Hmmm...I was wrong. Thought I'd heard about schools disallowing this practice. I know when I was a teacher, we had to have prayer meetings very early in the morning to avoid "school hours," which unreasonably stated at 7:15 when school didn't even start until 8:30.
Either way, please disregard that incorrect comment.

Well it is kinda in danger with some "christian kids" that won't take a stand for their faith because they don't want to be [s]prosecuted[/s]
Edit: I mean Persecuted

Furen if you don't know what you're talking about will you just not say anything so this thread doesn't get derailed by clearly false comments? Thanks.

Go to a university (if you've got one nearby, I guess). I know mine participated in this, but I'm not sure if it was in September...

Well I do know what I'm talking about as I saw first hand that NO ONE was at my school so that shows right there the danger it is in.

Eh, we aren't really persecuted in the US. The worst that we get is a bit of nasty name-calling and some accurate criticisms.
Regardless, this is a pretty cool idea, just so long as we keep the lessons taught in Luke 18 in mind. It is best to pray humbly and to God, not loudly in an effort to draw attention to ourselves, our righteousness, or to the immorality of others.
(note: I am not accusing anyone here of doing this. It's just that I have seen this happen at prayer gatherings, and I think that it's something we should be very careful about.)

The school I work at isn't even in session yet... oh well I usually do some stuff on opening day of school and whatnot as I walk around.

No one showing up is different from being legally prosecuted, which is why I said what I said.
EDIT: Know what? Crap. Furen, did you mean "persecuted" instead of "prosecuted?" If so, I apologize profusely and take back what I said up there. Yes, I can see how some kids might feel they were being persecuted if they were being made fun of (though it isn't really comparable to true persecution).
Sorry. I just thought you were saying that the government was going to like sue people for doing this, and was upset about it. I really do apologize if you used the wrong word. I tend to be very reactionary and fly off the handle about those kind of things. :\

Oh, SYATP was today? Well shoot, that's what I get for taking too many classes with so much homework that makes me forget everything. XD;
Though, it's great to pray for your school(and everything else really) everyday, not just one day. ^_^

I didn't go (a little too sick), but I didn't really feel like going either. There's a vocal group of Christians at my school that went around with signs saying versions of 'You're all going to hell' a few weeks ago, and I really didn't feel like mingling with them >.>"

Atria: Oh, wonderful. Way to spread the love of Christ, guys.
Anyways, I used to go to this when I was in high school. It's kind of a neat little thing.

I really think we need to have group prayer and stuff more often then once a year though. At SYATP I also found out when our Christian group at school meets, but I'm to busy to go

Well yeah but there's a lot of stuff we need to have more than once a year that we don't. I don't think the point is "Hey only pray together this one day out of the year and then forget about it the rest." I think the point is to try and encourage people to do it more often, to make them go "This was pretty cool let's do this again soon."
I mean I wouldn't go but for the people who would I say make it happen. XD
