How did you Choose your user name?

Some people have really interesting urer name's and I've always wondered where they got them...Mine has a little connection to my real name, but origionally, it's a misspelling of Lina/Rina, the name of a main character from Mermaid Melody Pitchi Pitchi Pitch. I was unable to get myself through the anime, (Manga might be better) but I always thought her character was pretty interesting, and a tiny bit like mine. Mostly it was just because I liked the sound of the name, though XD
So? what about You?

My username is my real name. Well kind of. My real name is Nathan but most people call me Nate.
This wasn't always my username though. Nope, I had another one a long time ago that made many people think I was a girl for some reason. So that's why I changed it to this one. Under this name, the amount of times someone has thought I was a girl has been greatly reduced!

I always had a hard time trying to think up names, so my friend (Who is on the internet way more than anyone should be [and I'm on too much as well]) made up a character and we looked for names and bla bla bla rambling and searching and now I don't remember the meaning but I do know Ren (The name I like being called around here other than my real name which is only used in chat) is Water lily... so we choose that and a last name and this is my user name if it's available.

Okami.
It. Has. NOTHING. To. Do. With. The. Game.
I was in sixth grade. My Inuyasha RPG character was a wolf demon. We originally misnamed her "Ookima." From there she became Okami, who is my alter-ego/online alias. If I can capture the name "Okami" on a forum, I will. So far, there are only three boards I frequent that I have this name, CAA, Project Pokemon, and Trillian Discussion Forums. Otherwise you will generally see me using Wolfesque, "Wolf like"

I'm a devoted fan of Sonic the Hedgehog games.
And I like thinking too abstractly in terms of names.
And no, rhyming has nothing to do with my username. XD;
Back when I played my Genesis all day long and I finally got to the end of the Sonic the Hedgehog 2, I loved the look of Super Sonic (plus, I think I'm the only person who enjoyed those special stages to get the Chaos emeralds). Back when I was too young to go on the internet (when I was about 10 years old) I thought of my future username, dreaming of the day I would use it. I thought it was just the coolest thing ever.
Years later, I thought the name was kind of stupid and cheesy, but I couldn't think of anything better once I joined CAA. >_>
Thus, you have goldenspines.

Interesting thread!
Um, I just changed my username today, lol... so I guess I'll explain both my new and old name!
My old username was KaedeKarasuma... I really wanted to change it because I've used it on various sites since about 2004, and I got it from a name generator. .__. Yeah... that, and I didn't like its Westernized arrangement of the surname last. But I do really like "Kaede" still though, since it means "maple leaf" and I love Japanese maple trees.
My new name, Beau Soir, is French for "beautiful evening." It's also the name of a French song by Claude Debussy (I almost picked Clair de Lune, another one of his songs, but I find that to be overused, and it's in Twilight...D: ) I think the song is extremely beautiful and soothing... there's a link to a version sung by Barbra Streisand in my signature, if you want to hear it. :3

by Rusty Claymore
My name came about kinda in the same style of how I joined CAA. I was depressed. XP Being distantly scottish, I have an affinity towards Claymores and other large weaponry.
During a down season I saw my predicament being that I was a physical fighter type, but God was only interested in spiritual people. And tools that don't get used rust. Essentially, I was thinking that people who are majorly justice oriented and believe in the valid use of physically applied force don't belong in Christianity.
In a similar bout of depression I typed "Christian Anime" into google as a masochistic joke, since obviously people who like Anime such as myself did not belong in Christianity either.
And here I am. XD Rusty Claymore is my online alias. Everywhere I go I aim for it, and if I can't get it I'll add 014, which is my calling number. It's even my Xbox live tag. I googled it once and the only thing to pop up is my activity here and a sword from Monster Hunter. I had my name first, so I got really excited about that sword when I found it in game... XP

Apologies, I'ma use a large font to explain this, so you can see the kanji...
Mine is my real name ("Anne") combined with what I would want to be named if I was Japanese ("Yuki"). If I go to a restaurant here in Japan and have to write my name on a waiting list, I will use the kanji "Yuki" (雪) rather than the katakana for "Anne" ( アン ), because I think the katakana for Anne are kind of boring and inelegant. Even if I put Yuki in hiragana, it looks lovelier: ゆき. And Yuki is actually appropriate for me, because I'm 1. pale, and as a name, "yuki," which is Japanese for snow, implies "pale beauty" (not that I think I'm crazy beautiful or anything, it's just that a lot of Japanese names for girls imply beauty or grace), which is why it's usually only for girls, and 2. it's somewhat related to my surname.
Yes, I put an overmuch amount of thought into this... >.>

Plus, "
Kaemmerite" was obscure as all heck, and thus difficult to know how to pronounce.
Yeah, I have room to talk . . .
My SN, pronounced "Huh-Tom [
not 'Aitch-Tom'] Servo, comes from a host segment in the
Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode,
Hamlet. In this segment, Tom Servo says he wishes to be called "Htom Sirveaux". Crow then says he's changing his name to "Cröe".
My SN used to be
SpoonyBard, but I changed it because I felt it was too common, and anyway, although I liked the whole Engrish thing, I've never been a huge Final Fantasy fan.
Some people around here, however, (most notably
Tsukuyomi) still call me
Spoony. But I don't mind a bit.

The Big Sleep is a novel I read by Raymond Chandler as well as a movie starring Humphrey Bogart. I read / saw both in 2000, and then had to choose a user-name for a yahoo account as part of an Internet Basics course (part of a larger schedule). I just added the first letter of my name and bingo!, BigsleepJ came into being.

by Rewin
My name was first written by my sister for a story. I was just starting to play EverQuest II again and needed a name for my half-elf brigand and decided Rewin was very fitting. For those who haven't figured it out, the name is pronounced ruin, which is all I usually leave behind in game
When I joined CAA I decided I didn't want to use the same username I usually use (TheSilverDragon or some variance there-of) so I decided my EQII main was the way to go.

@Rewin: Yeah, I wasn't sure on the pronunciation of your SN. I just kept saying "Rewind" (as in, "Opposite of Fast Forward") without the D. I probably will continue to do so out of habit.

Ah, yes, I changed just about everything today! Since I came back to CAA recently, I just felt everything was so... old, needed a change.
It's hard to get used to, and I do still like being called Kaede! Whatever you want to call me is okay ^__^ and the notification is there in my sig now.
I love all of these stories too! It's so interesting... Wonderful thread, Lynna-san~ XD
This thread rocks.

I am Airichan623 on MyAnimeList and the Naruto forums (i dont use that one anymore). 'Airi' is the #1, a Japanese name close to my real name (Adri, btw) and my chosen name if i should ever live there. Also comes from teen J-Pop idol Suzuki Airi, member of Hello project music groups Cute. [said kyuuto] and Buono! [known for doing the all ending themes of Shugo Chara!] she's the center girl
Chan is well, the cute girl suffix used in Japan, and 623 is my bday. (all my usernames anywhere on the web have 623 on them)

Yeah, that's pretty much it.
The real story is in my decision to retire my previous handle before coming to CAA.

by PrincessZelda
My screen name is pretty simple... not a lot of thought put behind it, at least XD I'll make a story out of it, though!
When I was first joining sites when I was like, 13 or something, I was extremely obsessed with The Legend of Zelda game series. And so, since I couldn't think of any better names, I frequently used "Zelda" as a screen name. When I joined this site, however, "Zelda" was already taken, so I used "Zelda27." The 27 is for my birthday, September 27th.
Later, I decided I didn't like having a screen name that had a number in it, not to mention that people kept on mistaking me for a guy for some reason (Possibly because a lot of people are confused about who Zelda is, and think Link's name is Zelda. [I hate when people ask me "So, is Zelda a guy or a girl? I could never tell. I mean, he looked like a guy, but he wears that green dress..."]), so I changed it to "PrincessZelda" It just looks more official or something, plus it indicates that I am female.
I kind of liked having it without the "Princess" though, because it could indicate just the game series, rather than the character. 'Cause I mean... people are always like "Oh, I love Zelda! Those games are awesome!" So yeah. But with PrincessZelda, since it's actually implying the character, it makes it seem like I'm pretending to be that character or some such nonsense. Or something... I'm not even sure what I'm talking about anymore. Ignore this.

I chose my user name for two reasons:
1. "Crystal" sounds similar to my second given name (Kristelle = Crystal)
2. I added "Chalice" in for Added Alliterative Appeal

isn't from Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles? XD Because there's a crystal chalice... lol...
In any case, I think your name is pretty. :3

My username comes from a William Gibson novel called Neuromancer. There's a location inside the story called Villa Straylight, I took the name just because I thought it sounded rather good.

There was a Catholic philosopher who lived during the thirteenth century called John Duns Scotus. He became known throughout the church and the universities as a brilliant thinker. The church dubbed him Doctor Subtilius (the Subtle Doctor) because of his insight and method of argumentation.
He's not my favorite medieval philosopher. That would be Thomas Aquinas; however, he was known as the Angelic Doctor, which doesn't sound nearly as cool as Duns Scouts' moniker

I have had this SN for over a decade. I think it might be time for a change. However, every site I ever sign up for I use it and not I am kinda stuck.
Sheol is the Hebrew word for the grave or area where the soul goes after death.
777 is because back in the old AOL days everyone was BaronVonEvilSatan666. So I went with the subversive christian equal of 777 ..take that satanists
