Nice things to do for a "guy friend"

I want to do something nice for a guy friend of mine ("guy...friend" cough cough you know what I mean), but because I've been so corrupted by anime and manga, the only things I can think of doing are baking cookies and knitting scarves, which is kind of... Yeah.
I've made him truffles once, and he liked them, but he's not a big fan of sweets so I'd rather try something else. In terms of cooking, he doesn't seem to have much in the way of preferences, but anyway I think I've traumatized him with my horrible dejikko cooking skills (Ow<\ tehe~!), otherwise I'd really like to cook him Chinese food...
So I'm kind of stuck. Anyone have ideas on good ways to get to a man's heart aside from his stomach? (unless it's an easy one that doesn't require later stomach pumping.)
I wrote this thread with full anticipation of crack responses. Do your worst!

Do something nice like... What, are you repaying him for something or are you just wanting to show him that you care? I guess it depends on the guy. My wife showers me in gifts, and those are cool and I know they're signs that she really cares, but gifts aren't usually my thang. Doing stuff with him is cool too. Usually that's my favorite. I value experiences highly. If I want stuff, I usually go out and get it, but memories and experiences are priceless to me. You could do him a solid by doing something with him that you know he loves that you may or may not necessarily be so crazy about yourself.

For me it would be just hanging out with my friend and having a great day. And I'm sure you can have a nice day for him without having costs (I never need money to have a good day with any friends, it's about enjoying your day with those you care about.
anyway that's my thoughts

Is that supposed to be Gold? I can't tell.
Normally I'd be more into experiences too, but he's the type of guy who doesn't do fun things outside of his room other than go to restaurants-- in other words, not a very date-y guy. (I think our most out-there date was taking the subway out half an hour and going to Target. I love discount mass retail chains though so...) His idea of a good time is playing TF2 and Magic, and while that's all cool, it's not very special, you know? That's to say it happens a lot. It's hard to think of very special things I can do for him that he doesn't see nearly every day. Gifts are also hard too; I know what he wants to save up money to buy, but it's not very interesting to just buy him something off his wishlist (which is why I feel like cooking something that someone likes is more personal/meaningful, except I can't cook).
I guess the reason I'm thinking of it is because it's really easy for him to please me-- one time he took me out to the courtyard at school with homemade white hot chocolate he concocted himself and a variety pack of cookies, all under the moonlit night sky; I'm a complete sap who loves sweets, so that was pretty easy. But I can't think of a good way to respond to that.

If I was wanting to do something nice with my "female friend", It'd be either going to the movies to see a movie that's we've been wanting to see, or just have a fun day. I'd take her to Disney Land or something. It all really depends on how your "Guy friend" is, but really anything that you do will show him that you care. I myself would love it if my girl would bake me some cookies. Yum.

Well, since he doesn't like sweets too much, what about salty things? Maybe make him some sausage balls or something.
If a girl made me some sausage balls and fudge, I'd be good for gifts for a while. XD

Creepy O.o o.O O.O
anyway, there needs to be some common ground you two have together, there has to be something for you two to be such good friends.

Hmm... Not too into sweets. What about poetry? I've used that with positive results in the past. Also, you might consider a gift, but make it a challenge to get to it. If he likes puzzles, maybe combine poetry and gift giving with a silly rhyming set of clues, each pointing to the next, but eventually arriving at the gift.
If you're not all that good at cooking, you can always have a "fancy feast" made from frozen dinners. You know, nice table cloth, plates, sparkling cider, cloth napkins, and TV dinners, still in the aluminum. If he's got a sense of humor, make like a french chef and lay it on thick. The absurdity of it all would have excellent results on me.
HIH, and good luck!
PS: My initial reaction was "Thunder Fist Crackers!" so I guess I'm corrupted, too.

You could go ahead and get stuff of that wishlist, but deliver it to him in a way that's really sweet. I like the 'hunting' idea with different clues. And then you can dress it up with a 'Followed by.... dinner and movie of the recipient's choice'. Dinner doesn't have to be fancy- there are lots of options in the frozen foods isle, like lots of people have said ^.^
You can do one of the more special ones, where you actually have to make the sauce seperately and whatnot.... what are they called, Butoni's, or something like that? Or get those frozen fish that aren't fishsticks (we have a section where you can get them pre-seasoned or marinated, you just follow the directions to cook them up, and they seem pretty fancy out-of-the-oven).... Just make a nice salad to go with it- those are foolproof on messing up. And for dessert, get a cake or cupcakes or something from the supermarket or local bakery and set them out on a plate instead of getting them out in the package- that makes it seem nicer, too.

My sister did this for her husband (I think he was still her boyfriend at the time): She made a bunch of home made "vouchers" to give to him. Like a car wash voucher or a movie voucher that he could redeem at any time and then she would go and wash his car (making a picnic or something fun out of it too) or take him to the movies etc.
I can't think of all the ideas she had, but I think there where about 5 or so. A back rub voucher maybe? A chicken-soup-when-you-are-sick voucher, although that might be a bit weird. Even if they are things that you would do/might happen anyway, it's like giving a gift of spending time with the guy that is more highlighted than just doing it normally. ...Does that make sense?

Wait.
Wait.Anime is lying to me? And all the fanboys on the internet are lying to me? What do? D8
And now the only suggestions I can think of involve dressing up as a maid or a waitress or a school girl or any of those things plus a gun. If you do this, let me know if it works IRL.

Wow...so many excellent suggestions. Creativity is key, and if humor can be added the better. Sometimes it's better to break out of your comfort zone.
Build forts in the backyard....
Water balloon/water gun fights....
Silent rave.....get them glowsticks!
Have a luau?
The best thing is to incorporate something he is into. Good luck, dear!

Btw, I'm Julianne. ^_^ Good to meet you.
Some suggestions[from a non-guy point of view] are as follows.
Use one of your talents and create something great for him, like a painting, or picture. Or whatever. But something that comes straight from your heart that you think he would enjoy.

*thinks* what if you made him a bento?or give him chocolates on Valentines Day?
although, come to think of it, almost 70% of anime girls get rejected at least once, so maybe that wouldn't be a good idea...although I've always thought thier adea's were pretty good...

It's kind of hard because he does not like movies O_O;

AHAHAHA I love this one! I could totally do instant ramen www
Well, maybe that's taking it a little too far =w= But I like the "presenting food at home as if it were a restaurant" type thing. I wonder if i I can manage to make something slightly more complex than a TV dinner www
