Pita Bread Pizza! It's Cheap and TASTY!

Recipe for Pita Bread Pizza:

You will need:
1 Pita Bread slice (I bought a pack of like 6 slices)
1/4 cup of cheese (or however much you will want)
2 table spoons of the sauce of your choice (I chose Ragu Garlic pizza sauce!)
And any meat and veggie topping of your choosing!

Preparation:
Place Pita bread on plate
Spoon on the sauce and spread it around evenly on the bread.
Place your meat and veggie toppings and arrange them to your tastes
Add the cheese

Pop in microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Take out and enjoy!

This meal cost me less than 8 bucks and best part it will provide me with 12 servings! (a serving for pita bread is half a slice XD) If you are ever in a pinch experiment with this and you won't be let down! :D

This sounds fantastic! I'm gonna need cheap and easy food to make when I move out, and this sounds PERFECT! Thanks so much for posting it!

yah I REALLY wanted pizza today, but I don't have the extra cash to ORDER a 10 dollar pizza that won't last more than a night. With this option, I can't over eat my portions, (unknowingly, as we tend to do...and talk ourselves into that extra slice) It tastes fresher and because the ingredients are sealed will last a lot longer.

Plus I can experiment with this! And it's kinda fun! ^_^ I'm gonna make a chicken pizza one of these days with some chicken I bought for other meals! :thumb:

A pita slice I'm talking about is like the size of a regular mini pizza...so about 6-8 inches in diameter. XD That probably equates to two regular slices of pizza (I sometimes go overboard and eat 4 if I were to order)

So..its kinda a portion control type thing. If I want more pizza I ahve to make the effort to make it...which I can easily talk myself out of :)

Yes, I know what pita bread looks like but you either have very good self-control or a smaller stomach than I, maybe both. Kudos though. I don't know if I could make it for that cheap but I'd probably just have to work out how many Australian dollars that equates too. Thanks!

I LOVE Pita bread.

I also like to put tuna in pita bread, it's great!


Note: I'm not saying to put the tuna over the pizza ingredients XD; however, that might be a good experiment. Hmm..

True, I really wouldn't mind trying it. And if I did and it didn't turn out great, then I'd be just wasting one serving rather than going full throttle with a whole pizza.

If you want your pizza to taste "pizza-y", add a good amount of oregano and then some basil to your sauce.

I'm loving the other ideas too!! ^_^ If you guys try this and do it differently share your recipes here! ^_^

Because I wasn't sure how this would taste, I just used Turkey sausage (like polish sausage or kielbasa) and cheese with pizza sauce

Today I found that my roomie has some oregano...and so I dashed some on, and added mushrooms!
SO GOOD YOU GUYS!

I'm wondering if there are healthier ways to make this though, maybe with chicken, and brocolli, served cold with some sort of light fat free chip dip as the base. I'm sure that's been done before...

Not sure if you want to try this on a pita bread or not.

When it comes to pizza most of the time, I make my own.

I use a pizza sauce that is freshly made in a jar that you will find in cooler area of a grocery store. It taste a lot better then band sauces and it is more healthier then those pizza sauces as well.

Anyway, I put the sauce on and then mozzarella cheese (for me, I use the low fat/sodium mozzarella cheese)

Cut up fresh tomatoes and place them on top of the cheese

Cut grill chicken breast into strips (I grill chicken a few days before or the day before I make a pizza and use the left over grill chicken for the pizza)

Pour Mrs. Dash Garlic & Herb Seasoning Blend on top of the pizza

Pour black pepper on top of the pizza

Then bake it.


So you may want to try this with the pita, but I don't know how well it will taste on it.

I'm not gonna lie, that sounds pretty awful.

I should make my own pizza though. No pizza place around here puts hot sauce on their pizzas. :\ I need one with bacon, pepperoni, mushrooms, and loads of hot sauce. And pineapple. Man that'd be one awesome pizza.

My favorite home-made pizza is a miniature pizza crust or pita bread with just enough extra virgin olive oil to thinly coat the crust, a layer of pesto, pieces of grilled/baked chicken, peppers (I like red the best, but any kind will do) and mozzarella cheese. Yum!

OOH those ideas sound really awesome! ^_^ Especially the pesto with olive oil, and chicken and cheese! (Also Roy's recipe!)

Nate, your's sounds really scary! I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy food.

What you might want to do to make a lighter base is just use olive oil and basil. That's what I do! Whenever I make pizzas for myself, I keep it pretty simple with olive oil, basil, and shredded Italian cheeses. If I want to add anything else, I usually go for whole tomatoes (asdf so good), chicken, and feta cheese. Definitely try it out sometime, it is awesome! XD

I can say that using olive oil as a base is very good. I have tried it by itself or use it with pizza sauce. You may ask why do that as coat dough with olive oil and then pizza sauce? It will help you from using less pizza sauce.

When you said whole tomatoes, do you cut them in half and place it on the pizza or cut them small chucks?

Oh, I cut them in half or leave them as whole slices, definitely. XD Small chunks are okay, but it's so much better to have the whole tomato on the pizza like that. XD

Okay, now I have to ask. How many do you put on it as the cut in half ones?

I have tried whole slice tomatoes on a pizza and it is good.

After having tomatoes on a pizza. Anytime that I do order a pizza, I will get it with cheese, tomatoes that they cut into small chunks at most places and garlic on it and it very good.

Well, depending on the size of the pizza, one tomato ought to be enough. XD If it's an 8-inch personal-size, though? Maybe half of one, if that! XD

Wow, this sounds really good. I think I might try it some time... I haven't had pita bread in quite some time, and pizza is typically a good choice! :) Spinach pita bread pizza sounds like a good choice for dinner one night. I'll have to add that onto a list of things to try.

Pita pizzas are really fun. I like to use olive oil or red sauce, and sometimes feta cheese, red bell peppers, black olives, and fresh basil (if I can get a hold of some).

Man who knew how hard it was to find pita bread. I tried to do this this week, and I went to the Food Lion, and there wasn't any pita bread in the bread aisle (because why would BREAD be in the BREAD aisle? It's nonsense!) nor was there any at the bakery section. It took me going to Wal-Mart to finally find some pita bread, along with some Indian flatbread I don't remember the name of but looked pretty good. I just googled it and it's called "naan."

Anyway I bought regular mini-pizza crusts but I accidentally overcooked it. Now I can remember how long to cook it for. Next time I need to remember to put pineapples on it!
