Earthquake and Now Hurricane

Talk about anything in here.

Here in central PA, we're expecting that the worst that might happen would be the power going out. But so far it's barely even rained. I'm kind of impatient for stuff to start getting interesting around here. I mean, I don't wanna see massive property damage or anything, but maybe something blowing down the street would be cool. A lawn chair maybe, or a small animal.

Power went out for about an hour a while ago. Might not be the last time today either. Still getting strong wind gusts and VERY light drizzling. I was expecting a lot more rainfall from this thing. :l

Just got a call from my mother in VA. Their power has been out for a few hours now and mobile phone reception is shoddy at best, apparently they can only text message. It took her about 2 hours to remember she had a landline phone she could use to call me. =/

The hurricane is set to hit tomorrow at my home city. We're already having rain storms, moved everything form our deck and got our flashlights and batteries in case we lose energy for a while (When Hurricane Isabelle hit several years ago, we lost power for a week). Funny thing is that I was going to move on campus today, but I'll most likely wait until sunday depending if there is no postponing date for my classes.

It's pouring rain in my part of PA right now. No winds yet. I hope it stays that way. My cousin was telling me how a dam broke down in North Carolina where a friend of hers lived and there are already two people confirmed dead. I know it was unrealistic, but I was hoping no one would die due to this storm.

Yeah, I hear there are 2 dead in Virginia and 4 in North Carolina now. We have a flash flood watch in my area and a tornado warning in some neighboring states so being the big paranoid baby I am I'm starting to get scared now. A tornado already destroyed a house in poor Delaware.

Wind is really starting to pick up here in DC, but the rain's actually let up for the past couple of hours (Of course, I'm sure I just jinxed that)

We have light wind and steady rain here. Something exploded and now there's a brown out, but internet and some parts of my room still work. I unplugged pretty much everything anyway. The wind is supposed to get worse as the night goes on.

I know someone who's holed up in NYC against the rain and wind and another that's holed up in another state because of a tornado. It's all very interesting. I'm a little worried for them, but I think they'll be okay.

Same here. The wind is beginning to pick up though around my area, but the rain is very light as of now. However, the news just said flash flood may come in our area so the rain won't be so light later on.

Also, the death toll has gone up to 6 unfortunately. :(

Well, after two tornado warnings and a gas leak scare, we're all back in our rooms and it's still raining. I really don't plan on sleeping much or at all tonight.

By way, just thought everyone should know - this storm has REALLY given a nice jump to gas prices. We jumped up 10 cents around here, and I'm sure other places have jumped up even higher (probably cost us all a net total in the hundreds of millions and possibly over a billion at the pump and elsewhere). Thus, even though the storm may only be drizzling in your area with light wind - we all get to face a disaster movie at the pump, grocery store ect. for a fictional disaster [s]people[/s] silly speculators thought would happen :P - so that's one good reason we can all hate this storm! :) (teasing: it's only money, I'm frankly happy that the storm seems to be far less dangerous then was told. Stay safe everyone ;D )

I'm staying at a cousin's in the montains of VA. I saw some pictures of Suffolk and Norfolk and a few of VA Beach, and there are quite a few areas that have been flooded. However, my dad's boss, who decided to stay on base, called my dad and said that the base is fine. *Sighs in relief*

Sun's out in DC now, though it's still pretty windy. I obviously can't speak for the rest of the reason, but somehow I managed to go through this whole ordeal without loosing power once!

I lost power around 8:00 last night and didn't get it back until around an hour ago. The winds really started to pick up and I was seriously afraid my neighbor's huge pine tree was going to fall down on my house. The rain is done, but still having some strong winds here. Can't wait for this storm to be fully over.

Just got the power back after losing a little after midnight. I slept in my sister's room in case the trees in our backyard may fall on my room.

So, late last night through early this morning we had moderate to light rain, and wind coming in strong gusts. My area's fine, not so much as a flicker. But in my parents' neighborhood (no more than 10 minutes' drive away) the power is out and will be until Tuesday at the latest.

Wind and heavy rain for us. We lost power mid-afternoon. We weren't expecting it back anytime soon, and we were all bored, so I got my sister to play Risk with the rest of us. We shot the rest of the day and much of the evening. It was an odd way to spend Sunday. XD

So yeah, no lasting harm here. Having a power outage in August (rather than between the typical December-February) was weird, but it didn't last long enough to hurt us.

So apparently our power companies out here got confused about which coast they were on and blacked out several parts of Southern California over the weekend =.=;;.

More seriously, glad to hear everyone's fine and that their houses are fine.

Well I actually feel guilty since Irene did so much damage to others yet miraculously went on a path not toward my state like it was originally thought to. I meant to get a fundraiser started in my art class but I forgot. :'(

I ended up loosing cable until this morning...pretty much after the hurricane was calming down and leaving. That was so bizarre. They couldn't get it back on for two days.

I worked from 4PM Sat to 6AM Sun. Most we did was talk to the others that were called in which was 5 people including myself. While I was there the power went out at my house around 7 PM. Then the power went out at work and we were on generator all evening. After I got off I went home and into bed until noon got up to do a few things. Sitting with my parents were trying to figure out about what to do about the food in the freg and freezer when the power came back on around 1PM. I had to call at 3PM to see if we had to return to work but we were not called back so we could return Mon regular time.
A couple of friends I learn had trees on their houses and waiting for insurance companies to come and checkout the damage that has been done. It maybe weeks before they show. Some areas are still without power and citizens are cutting up trees to get help into their areas because government and private crews are few in some areas.
