Are you old fashioned!?

Talk about anything in here.

I ask men out. On dates. I guess this means I'm not old fashioned. Ah well.

[quote="Nekomimi (post: 1413310)"]Okay, gotta represent Hawaii here: "Old-fashioned" can mean more than just the Judeo-Christian American/European culture. If you have a different ethnic background like I do, it means other things as well. "Old-fashioned" can mean "traditional", like something positive culturally, or it can mean "embarrassing" like, well, embarrassing culturally, especially in an American context XD "Old-fashioned" can mean being strong enough to retain your identity as a new immigrant, or being proud of your roots as a native Hawaiian, or learning about your family's culture and language and the hundreds of people you're related to on the island (and in at least three other countries). It can also mean you're not acclimating to America quickly enough & getting the "FOB" label slapped on you, or it can mean you're uptight about things like your grandkid/niece marrying a non-whatever-ethnicity-you-are.

Now that I've got that off my chest, I gotta say that I'm not really old-fashioned about anything, sorry. Well, except the part about being proud of where I come from & my cultural & spiritual identity, I guess that's kinda old-fashioned. Otherwise, I open doors for whoever, I go online whenever, I ask guys out (& get shot down!), I like to party at bon dances & anime conventions & church camps, I like my kanji tattoo, & boy, do I like clean running water, western toilets & electricity. If you've ever lived in a place that didn't have those, you know what I mean ]

As my history teacher expertly put it, America is not a "melting pot" of cultures but rather a "tossed salad", because in my honest opinion America has this way of attempting to bully everyone into acting "more American." where this idea came from is beyond me, as our constitution explicitly states that America exists for the people, and NOT people for America. It vexes me to no end to see people bashing other cultures, religions, languages, or traditions, because no matter how wrong you think they are you can't change them by bullying them and hatred. Rant over.

It's cool to have someone from another culture here, Aloha!

I know what you meant, but I still can't help but imagine a tattoo of Kanji from Persona 4. Of course, there would only be a few acceptable phrases for a Kanji tattoo to say. "Get bent!" is the obvious choice, followed closely by "Man, a watermelon!"

Easy dichotomy:

Which is a superior work, Space Battleship Yamato or K-On!?

@KougaHane: "Tossed salad", that's cute :D I think my sister brought up something similar while she was an Ethnic Studies major.

LOL! I had to look up Persona 4 just to see who you were talking about (I kinda know Persona 3 by face only cuz I saw so much fanart). Somehow, I think the "watermelon" one should be reserved for one who deserves it ]Easy dichotomy:

Both! They've got their own lovely merits, the former being an outer space drama that killed off good guys & characters you cared about, introducing Americans to some kickass animation & stories, while the latter is a sweet, slice-of-schoolgirl-life moe show inspiring otaku to buy guitars they'll never buy - although I'd like to think that more girls would start their own bands because of this ;-) & I admit, I've memorized "Don't say 'lazy'"!

I haven't seen either show, but I hate moe so Yamato automatically gets my vote. When it comes to anime, I guess you could say I'm "old-fashioned".

I'm Moe indifferent. If a show is "moe" I'll watch it if it's otherwise interesting. I think the idea is vaguely disturbing, but just because a show is catering to the Moe crowd doesn't mean it has to be equally disturbing. Lucky Star (Moe, I guess... they talk about it a lot) is one of my favorite shows. I like it because Konata is a hardcore geeky girl, and that is what I wish I could find as a wife (in addition to Christian, among other things) I don't like blue hair or women that look like children or whatever... Those are all superficial things, and there is more to the characters than that.

Then there's Haruhi... Mikuru, Yuki, and Haruhi are supposed to represent the Moe trinity (no pun intended), but I just think the concept is interesting, even if Haruhi herself is downright EVIL for much of the show... She does get better (I guess that's kind of the point of a Tsundere character)

I realized I was old fashioned when I found out I have a four-digit serial number.

I realized I was old fashioned when I found out I was the only one in town without indoor plumbing.

I realized I was old fashioned when I found out that women are actually considered people now. (who knew?)

I realized I was old fashioned when I found out that middle-aged suburban housewives were no longer the prime target demographic for drug dealers.

I realized I was old fashioned when I found out that I couldn't submit this post by handwritten note.
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

K-on. The space battles were much more realistic.

you just half won

Also I saw the word "Alot", Seeing as someone posted a blog on this I had to laugh. I try to incorporate proper English on the internet, not those annoying shortcuts. I prefer face to face interaction rather than phones (Though the internet is okay too).
And this I pray, that your love would abound still, more and more with real knowledge and all discernment. Be prepared to preach the gospel at a moment's notice. Do you know the gospel well enough to do so yourself? Be ready.

I don't much like talking on the phone. There are very few people I can stand to have a phone conversation with for more the 15 minutes.
