Name My Spider!

So, we have new spiders. Different from the ones that USED to live in our house. But these look like Recluse Spiders of some kind but I can't be sure - so I thought I'd ask everyone on the net. We've run into them three times, one walking toward my dorm room, one deciding it would be fun to try and share the shower and this one decided to float down towards my mother and almost landed on her face while in the bathroom as well. Needless to say, these spiders have gotten a less then pleasant reputation.

But... what type of spider is it?

The brown recluse is actually quite tiny:

Drat, y'know, today I saw a spider right outside my front door that I have no idea what it was. I googled the description of it and can find absolutely no information on what kind of spider it might be. It is a bit annoying.

Hmm... that's a great webpage Alcuinus, I dropped the image on there and I'll find out what it is. Maybe Nate can too! Thank you for the great idea!

Very likely NOT a Brown Recluse.

A. Absence of violin-shaped marking on cephalothorax.
B. Patterned abdomen (Brown Recluses have no patterns)
C. Hard to see the eyes from the picture, but BRs have six eyes -- two forward, two on each side; the eye patterning here doesn't quite look right
D. From your description of their activity -- they are being much more forward than normal BRs

Trying to get a better species identification, could you increase the amount of light and take another photograph?

Yeah but I don't wanna sign up for a website I'll make like one post on. Besides I don't have a camera at the moment so I can't get a picture.

It was a small yellow spider, and on the back of its abdomen it had a black/brown line going down the center (parallel with the body) and six black/brown dots, three on either side of the line. Google reveals absolutely nothing about it, and while I'd like to think I've discovered a new spider species, I'm pretty sure that's not the case.

I vote his name is Mr. Webster! Also, the webpage noted that they aren't dangerous. The one is a male false widow and a second creeper (see the webpage) wasn't even a SPIDER at all. Great call there... but I still say we go and work on a "name" for the fellow in search of a companion (the males leave their webs only in search of females).

Looks like a well-fed male Southern House Spider to me. To be honest, mistaking it for a brown recluse is kind of easy to do considering the similar body shape. Until you look at it close up anyway.

My best guess. Although, where do you live? Fairly long list to go through to figure out a type of spider if you don't even know the region it lives in.

Not odd or weird at all. Sites like that can save a life. Having a site like that and finding out what kind of spider that you saw or you were bit by it, would help if you know the spider is venomous to a human or not.

If you go to a doctor or a hospital, they are going ask what kind of spider it is. if you don't know, then they can't really give you treatment, if it was a venomous to a human.

There are snake identification forums and sites out there as well. They have been very useful to people in knowing about snakes before they ever come across them and know to back way from one, if its venomous.

The same case would be for a spider site like that. It's very helpful and you don't want to kill one that is not venomous to a human as those are going to eat bugs.

I like that site, a lot. Thanks for sharing! Glad we know what kind of spider that is!

I was almost bit by a Brown Recluse last night... I was over at my friend's house, hanging on her couch and I look down an the arm rest and there was a brown recluse, it looked half squished so for a while I was concerned I DID get bit...

Thankfully, as of right now (12 hours later) I don't see any bites... haha!

Freaked me out though. @_@
