Ugh, so bad, sooooo bad. I think people need to think before speaking their ignorance and ethnocentricity.

Somehow, I'm not surprised but disheartened at the reaction to this single comment from one politician when there are bigger political crimes committed in the USA & worldwide that are either ignored &/or denied.

I could go off on a rant of worse injustices with real documentations that warrant true righteous anger. Though not all are political in nature, I'll refrain from listing these in respect of CAA rules to avoid going off into debates.

I will say this. I don't believe in political correctness nor in persecuting those who say the "wrong" things. If God granted the freedom of Free Will to believe & say what one wishes, should we not respect that right for others, (Weather what people say is right or wrong, smart or stupid, funny or serious.)?

Even though I'm not a great writer nor debater, thank you for reading my words and letting me voice my opinion.

Even though some say it's not a big deal because it was posted on facebook, doesn't that also mean he had the opportunity to read what he wrote multiple times before posting it, to be sure he wanted to say it and in that manner? I know for myself I will re-read this message at least 3 times before I post for just that purpose, and as a politician he should and likely does the same. That means he posted exactly what he meant to say, which I feel makes his apology feel empty. Should he be fired for this? Absolutely not. But he does need to hear a general outcry from those who were offended by his statement so that he learns what he can and can not say and also to possibly change the way he feels on the subject (not saying he wants to nuke Japan, but his views towards anime and quite possibly Japanese culture).
He is a representative of the people after all, he should be held accountable for what he says, not just what he does.

First of all, welcome to the boards :]

Secondly, it's obvious from looking at sites like Failbook that many people often don't give internet posts a second thought. They just fire things off and then regret it later, much like what happened here. I personally think about things before I post them, but not everyone does.

Though I admit I thought it amusing when I read it, he has been rightly chastised. While we must be open to forgiving and forgetting, the ease with which pols apologize as a necessary-but-disingenuous formalism annoys me to no end.

My recommendation: Rep. Levasseur should watch Grave of the Fireflies (first anime movie I ever saw, by the way).
...you must begin a reading program immediately so that you may understand the crises of our age... Begin with the late Romans, including Boethius, of course. Then you should dip rather extensively into early Medieval. You may skip the Renaissance and the Enlightenment. That is mostly dangerous propaganda. Now that I think of it, you had better skip the Romantics and the Victorians too. For the contemporary period, you should study some selected comic books.

It's not even just what he said, it's also that he's not taking any responsibility for his actions. In my books, that's worse.

His "private Facebook page?"

Last time I checked, Facebook wasn't entirely private. That's rather the point. That's the point of the entire Internet, in fact.
Anyways, I know it's easy to slip into a relaxed, jocular mode of thought when you're just posting comments on a social networking site, but someone in his position should remember at all times exactly who and what he is. As long as you're in politics, there's gonna be a circle of wolves out there just waiting for you to say or do something they can pounce on you for.

I actually just had a dream about this guy... in particular that he had a heart attack and I was joking that Light Yagami had finally gotten to him for his anti-anime comments. My mother scolded me, at which point I had to inform her of his other comments... it was kind of weird. Then the dream flipped into an alternative world where world II lasted an extra ten years because Japan refused to surrender after we dropped a 3rd nuclear bomb and it really got bloody once we set foot on the Japanese mainland. By the 1960s we had spy drones like the ones we had today to try and keep a monitor on our forces there because the resistance was still too bad. The US though was bankrupt from the massive cost of expenses.

I don't wish any bad luck to him, but it's funny that I did have a dream about him and the consequences of what that would have done.

Politicians should be careful what the say on the internet and voice/type their opinions and like all of us should do, think before they speak/type.

In my mind, he REALLY needs to apologize to the people of Japan for his comments. Seriously, if you're a public official, you're supposed to be held to a higher standard ESPECIALLY when it comes down to broadcasting your own personal beliefs on a public forum like Facebook.

Can I say I'm not surprised by this. I mean with everything going on in the Country & with it seeming like it going to HELL in a hand basket it doesn't really surprise me that some politician would say something mean about anime. I'm finding a lot of USA America's saying they don't like anime cause of the way some of these people dress at anime convention & how certain men cross dress (Which BTW really disturbs me & I don't like personally myself. It's one of my pet pev's) But yeah not surprise by this behavior. These people will just find some not to like cause of how Isolated they are from society in there big Mansion of house they have & just hate everybody & want to control most of the world. Me personally I'm a very Patriotic America & one of the few Patriotic American's in my family.
My favorite Quote from the Bible
To be absent from the Body is to be in the present of the LORD. This verses I hold dear to my heart & it helps me get through the day at times & the fear of DEATH & other fears in the world as I feel we go more towards the end times.

My favorite book from the Old Testament: The Book of Psalms.

My Favorite Character from the Bible beside My LORD & SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST is the Apostle Paul.

Favorite Book from the New Testament is the Book of Revelation.

Too me, it sounds like your more upset about his comment about anime then the nuke comment in it.

I say this, I could care less what he feels about anime, but I didn't like his comment about the nukes and making a joke about nukes that were used on a country.

I feel that he should apologize to the people of Japan for his comments, but for the nuke comment, for anime, that's his choice if he doesn't like it or not.
