Otakon '09

Talk about anything in here.

I totally missed that part. I didn't go to the panel or plan on going to it, but how was it trolling?

There was a thread about it on the Otakon boards (slightly edited to remove the name of something).
Otakon boards wrote:Here is what happened ( in order ):

1) At the start of the panel they said that they were going to hand out goody bags but they only had a certain amount so that it was first come first serve, so people ran out of there seats to get there hands on the bags (including myself). I was hoping it was some uber cool bleach relate stuff, so much for that. I pulled out a DVD titled "Gay Porn" and some sort of a bottle which I forgot the name of, and a tampon. So I was like ok...that was a little disappointing.

2) They were passing around a cardboard and told us to draw random stuff on it, when the cardboard came to me, it had some inapproiate drawings nothing related to bleach so I just passed it off.

3) Then another panelist announced a a party he was holding and gave out the time/place.

4) After they gave away the goodie bags and handed around that 'cardboard' they said that before anything they were going to do a Bleach cosplay contest. So they had this really boring fashion walk which was like two minutes long and had the panelist beatbox on the microphone. The winner received something (which I don't recall) and a home pregnancy test.

5) A 'guess that character game'! They put a picture of ichigo and some other very well known characters and asked us to 'guess that character', it was extremely stupid and by this time I knew this was a fake panel, so I left.

After that, people complained to staffers about it, and the staffers shut the panel down.

Also a quick mention about the Anime Deaths panel (which was in the same thread), one of the staffers said this, "As to Daryl Surat's panel. It was a misunderstanding, plain and simple. I do not believe that he intended in any way to mislead us. If he had submitted the idea as an 18+ panel it would have been fine and I welcome him to submit it again (as 18+) next year."

Also they played the entire pokemon rap which replaced every pokemon with "Jigglypuff".

Then they had a Q&A session where the panelists would give stupid answers to everything.

So THAT'S why I keep hearing the Jigglypuff song in my head at random moments.

Anyway, this is obviously a bit late (sorry, crazy hectic week) but it was great hanging out with all you guys!

It sure was! I was glad to meet two more new faces... even though we've seen each other in passing before, haha.

Blitzkrieg1701 has this web comic. Pretty amusing, flip through it. If you have been to Otakon this year...its pretty real to life.

I took a photo of you two and we didn't even know it was you, Sheol! Haha!

Haha, that's hilarious! Although... I have done exactly the same thing before too... the person was possibly even more prominent than yours, and looking directly at the camera.

I sort a spent my time in the AMVs at the con. The overflows and the contest.
I got into the dealers room and the art room.
Looked at the remake of EVA 1.0.
Went to cosplay and hunted for cosplayers for their pictures.
Eating and resting.

It occurs to me that I ought to post a slide show of pics here, since it's been just over a week now. Anyone else have pics to share?

Someone from the other side of the city... our paths have crossed many times since. (Actually, I also saw a Youtube video of hers before I met her also. XD)
Now that I re-look at the photo, the three most prominent people (in two groups) I didn't know then, but know now. The other two's faces were obscured by Mexican hats, and I only realised it was them when I showed them the photo. XD I love coincidences....

A very large portion of me weekend was spent running around trying to find people/things/panels (in Delaware, obviously), interspersed with occasional sitting down to watch videos and play games. Oh, and I think I slept a little somewhere in there.

I've got a MOUNTAIN of pics, but I haven't even begun to sort through them yet. It'll probably be a while before any of them get online.

Well you could fly into BWI airport and ride in on the transit trolley which comes by the convention center and most of the hotels or stay at a hotel near BWI and ride in on the trolley. A friend of mine did the second rather than pay the prices for the hotels near the convention center.
Then there is the Amtrack. I think there is a station near BWI.

Thanks for the advice. A flight to Baltimore shouldn't be too costly. I'll have to check into it(and starting saving up some cash).
