i really, really, hope so.

that means xbox will finally get the quality rpgs it deserves......and SquareEnix will finally have a powerful enough console to develop for, that can properly handle the high graphic stuff that i know they wish they can do now.......(of course the PS3 will be pretty brutal too)

Actually the Xbox 2 will more then likely be the weakest of the next gen systems since it is coming out first, then again, if I had my way, they'd go back to making 2D games only ^_^

i figured that the PS3 would be the best out of the next gens.......mostly because they're holding back to beef up the technology.......

microsoft is microsoft.........they'll find a way (sneaky or otherwise) to stay ahead of the game. i'm thrilled about possible square enix releases......

i can't see nintendo doing too much more though......with sony getting into handheld .......they're really going have to pull off something huge to stay afloat....(and after the gamecube....i've lost faith in nintendo to do anything except milk profits, re-release old titles, and put out a new mario game once a month)

but....overall....i agree they should go back to 2D games. =/

simplicity = fun

The greatest weakness of the Xbox is a lack of any high quality rpgs. with Square Enix there shouldn't be a problem with that. Not that I play any Xbox consule, but ah well. It will be interesting to see what they can pull off.

This is a odd turn for Square Enix... these are the people who left Nintendo over the whole "Yay! I can fit more prerendered backgrounds and FMVs on a CD then on a cartridge deal" Now, like most companies, the deal this time… is money... that's what I see. M$ has a lot of this and Square wants some. Or Square is just going Swiss neutral and playing all fields for the Big three. Yet, be cautious X-box 2 waiters, this probably isn't Kingdom Heart or a FF *insert Roman numeral here*. It's looking to me like a Crystal Chronicles deal, but probably not as bad. In short, look forward to it, but don't be too hopeful. As for Sony peeps, don't worry, I think Square it sticking with Sony for it's Flagship Final Fantasy continuations. Square, like most Japanese company, aren't real fans of an American (Windows based) system, they just know extra cash went they see it. And, yes, as I said; they might be just playing all fields until one comes on top. We'll see...

its unfortunate, but xbox's sales are doing horrible in japan....even though its a really great system. very few japanese game companies are backing it, and those are the guys who tend to put out the good rpgs.....

when (or if) Square releases something good on the xbox.......that would seriously put microsofts foot in the door in the japanese game market, and make everyone involved a big pile of money......

i agree though, i'm sure Square will primarily stick to Sony for its big stuff.

as it stands.....i stick to PS2 for RPGs.....xbox for FPSs and Action/Strategy.....and Gamecube as a cupholder while i play my xbox or ps2.........

I don't particularly care.
Let Square-Enix do what Square-Enix wants to do.

They are one of my favorite companies and it might possibly influence my decision on whether or not to buy the X-Box 2 but, really, I don't mind either way.

They might make a few exclusive Xbox 2 games (ala FF:CC) but they certainly aren't going to move their major frachises to Microsoft exclusively...

Since the new X-box will be the first in the new generation of systems, it makes sense that they want to have a most powerfull platform to release their games on... They have had their differences with Nintendo, so this may be plausible... I mean, Sony wasn't really established when they ditched Nintendo the first time, so they may be willing to draw their loyal fans to a new platform... i still won't buy a MS system... As long as Konami still publishes for Sony, I mean...

Cool gives me more of a reason to spew away my coins for an Xbox 2, it sure would make sense though I still think Square would choose to release system-exclusive games for each system, kinda the way they've been doing. I can just imagine what type of graphical juice they can muster up if they release a game on M$'s workhorse.

I hope they don't...I can't afford to have an X-Box...mainly if they make it for KH and FF then...that will be the only reason i'd get an X-Box...Plus I don't like X-Box anyways...almost all the games for it are Sports Games...and I HATE those...even tho i'm a sports fan...cept for HALO :D!!. But thats all X-Box has goin for me...Besides I think that would be a bad business call for Square anyways.

Just my opinion tho...X-Box fans...I'm sorry...save flaming for PM lol.

I think it will be a spinoff of some sort like Crystal Chronicles for the Cube. Squenix is gonna keep their big name titles in Sony's camp for quite awhile.

thing i'm think about is that if it's going to take until 2007 until the PS3 comes out, a lot of companies (including squarenix) are going to want to release nextgen games on the nextgen systems that are going to be selling so nicely for two or three years until sony catches up.

i love my ps2, but honestly its outdated technology........the only reason i still play it is for the japanese RPGs. (same reason i still play my genesis and snes)

Where are you getting this info? 2007? It's almost a sure thing that it's gonna come out in late 05 to early 06. They're going to give some official info around September I believe.

oops....running off old info........my bad.

just looked it up

------------
Sony executives have said the PlayStation 3 won't be released until 2007.

Source: Japanese online business newspaper Nikkei Electronics.

The official story: "We haven't announced anything since E3 regarding the progress of The Cell processor."--Sony Computer Entertainment American spokesperson.

What we heard: In a May 27th article on Sony's recent strategy meeting, Nikkei Electronics quoted Sony Corp. vice president and COO Ken Kutaragi as saying, "We [Sony] are going to cause a storm after FY2006" with the Cell processor. Since the high-speed chip at the heart of the PlayStation 3 and Japanese financial years are one year behind the current year--versus Western financial years, which are one year ahead--some sites assumed that Kutaragi's comment meant the PS3 wouldn't be out until 2007. However, native Japanese speakers who read the article said that Kutaragi's "storm" comment was more about a whole wave of electronic products that will incorporate the Cell, which will be seen in high-end workstations later this year, rather than the PlayStation 3, which is expected in 2006. (For the record, GameSpot adjusts Japanese financial years to match Western ones--life's confusing enough as it is.)

Don't feel bad, I looked it up too and all the articles I found announcing it where less than a day old yesterday (I think the oldest was like 15-18 hours old).

The articles all basically said the same thing, that the PS3 would be showed at E3 in 2005, that's not to say the US will be seeing it anytime soon (wasn't it 6mo-1yr before the PS2 came out here?).

A similar article also announced that the PSX wasn't going to make it to the US till 2007, so I'm not holding my breath for the PS3 here anytime soon.
