Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

Last week, I picked up a copy of Metal Gear Solid for the 'cube. This a pretty spiffy game. Yet, this game is soo short, I can't remember how many times I've beaten' it now. So far my best time is 3:30 mins on hard mode without radar. Now, I'm slowly working getting all the dog tags without radar on.

Anyways, I really like the cutscenes, sweet animation! :thumb:

The game is $40 bucks, but you can easily rent it and beat over a weekend. In fact, I beat it the day a got it.

So, who's played the new one?

I have never played the GC version, but I own MGS for PS1 and MGS2 for PS2. Is the game you played the same as either one of these two?

By the sound of your title it sounds like the MGS for PS1. Are you on Shadow Moses Island for most (if not all) the story? You meet Meril and Otacon?

The core of the game is fairly the same story and level design of MGS 1 for the PS..... the Otacon and Meryl endings are also present.

Differences:

1. Of course, the most noticeable change is the graphics. The graphics are now on par with Metal Gear Solid 2. Some areas are improved from MGS2, others aren't. I mean it’s an Alaskan military base, not much to look at.
2. The script and story is the same, but the voice actors were called back to give it a fresher sound.
3. All of the music has been redone and remixed. Also, the sound effects are greatly improved
4. The game play is completely altered to play like MGS2. You can shoot in first person mode and do all the little special moves like in 2.
5. The cut scenes are extended and reworked. I believe it's around over an extra hours' worth. Bringing the cut scenes time to over 3 hours! The cut scenes are also much more professional, cooler, and movie like than before and even MGS2.
6. Much better AI
7. Several little easter eggs

So far the best Metal Gear game, until MGS 3 comes out.

Man... What one would give for a cube... 100 dollars, to be exact.

That is kind of cool, especially if you had already played that original. That would be like Square bringing back FF7 and revving up the graphics and story.

Though I really like the MGS series, some times I wonder about its creators. A lot of the “Easter Eggsâ€

Heh, I was surprise of the fact the game's base price was under $40. I've seen it at a few places for $30

They crammed what they could in the short time they made the game. I was surprised, the game is short, but it's two disc worth of Metal Gear!

Here's some of the new stuff, I some old, I dunno, haven't play the original that much(spoilers, maybe): (hehe, I'm to lazy to type it all, so this is from Gamespot. ^^)

Cameo: GC and WaveBird controller

Go into Otacon's lab (where you fought the ninja), then go to the middle desk and look at the monitor. There you will see a Gamecube with a WaveBird controller next to it.

Cameo: Alex from Eternal Darkness
Lay any book on the ground, then go into first person view. Look at the magazine and you will see Alexander Roivas from Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.

Different Psyco Mantis sayings
Have either a Eternal Darkness, Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, or Super Smash Bros. Melee save on the memory card you are using to save, and he will mention them before the boss fight.

Cameo: Mario and Yoshi

In Otacons lab, you can find Mario and Yoshi figurines on top of a computer monitor. If you zoom in on Mario's head and shoot it, a 1-up message will appear over his head.

Eternal Darkness Poster
In the armory room is a room full of nikita equipment. Inside is a locker. Open it up and there will be an Eternal Darkness poster inside.

ZOE 2: The Second Runner Cameo

In the fight against the Ninja you can see a poster hanging from the back wall from Zone of Enders 2: The Second Runner.

These secrets can be unlocked on any difficulty.
Alternate ending theme :: Complete the game three times
Crimson Ninja :: Beat the game twice.
Boss Survival Mode :: Beat the game once.
Tuxedo Snake :: Beat the game two times.
Stealth :: Beat the game with Otacons ending (Submit to the torture)
Bandana ::Beat the game with Meryls ending (Endure the torture)
Start with Camera ::Obtain the Camera and beat the game
Sneaking Suit Meryl ::Beat the game twice

There's a few more for collecting dog tags, I dunno what those are..

Cool, so do you have to still swap your controler port when you fight Mantis?

What is Boss Survival mode?

Sneak Suit Meryl? So she just wears a differant costume? I guess thats better than her ___ _______ _____, like in the PS1 version.

O'yeah, one time I plugged in all four controls. It was interesting, on extreme mode, he would be become immunized to one, so, I'd switch to the next one down. Also, well lead game people, from all three companies that made the remake, pictures are present on the wall during the Mantis boss fight. Before the fight, Mantis makes the pictures on the wall will laugh at you.

Boss Survival mode is a callenge mode, where you take on all the Bosses in one sitting as fast as you can. Very fun! :thumb: My favorite of course is the Psycho-Mantis one.

All that is; is Meryl wearing Snake's default sneaking suit.

Hmmm... I was reading around, in old one if you take a pictures in certain locations using the camera and hidden ghosts of the KCEJ development team members will appear. I'm trying that out now to see if it works for the new version.

Nah, until about six months ago, I didn't know what it was.

Metal Gear Solid is a spy type game like 007. Basically Terrorists have captured a nuclear disposal facility on an Alaskan island and are demanding the US government hand-over the remains of a legendary soldier. If the demand isn’t met in 24 hours….the terrorists will launch a nuclear weapon. You play as, Snake, a famous retired commando of the US Special ops group named “Foxhoundâ€

What's the ____ for? Unless you mean, in her underwear, and that still happens in this version. There's not going to be less fanservice in a remake, especially not that famous bit of fanservice...

Well, that's happened fora while... Capcom did it with SNES and Genesis... They were Nintendo faithfull, and then went to Genesis, but still released SNES only games, as well as Genesis only games... It makes the hardcore fans buy other systems, and is essentially advertising for the system, and they prolly get money for system specific games... I'm guessing Konami didn't like the results of making "Substance" an X-box exclusive, so they rr-released it on PS2, though... There are some hardcore fans who probably have substance on PS2 and X-box, as well as the older "Sons of Liberty" game...

Yeah, it is and it’s earned the M rating. I won't go into detail, but here's a brief overview. It's a very violent game. Yet, you can beat the game without killing anyone and there's a nice option to turn the blood off. Very bloody too, if the blood's on, that is. Also, Some suggestive themes, as they put it. It's differently not for younger gamers.

Even without the blood, there's sexual things (particularly in the scene with Psycho Mantis) and some mature things that don't get placed in the "Bad blood, bad skin, bad words" category.

I don't really think anyone under the recommended age should play it.

I have heard a lot of people say that the visuals in this are actually worse than "Sons of Liberty"

I guess that proves you don't let an american game company with a failed game under their belt use said game as a base for a remake of Metal Gear Solid...

I mean, I even heard this about Metal Gear Acid

psp.ign.com wrote:Truth be told, there is a reason why big games like this are typically not shown in a very, very early state, and we're guessing that one of the reasons why MG: Acid was not playable was because of the state of the production and code. The game engine was somewhat chuggy in instances and not up to the liquid-smooth standards of the franchise. There was also a little bit of the dreaded aliasing shimmer, plus a lot of PS1-quality fogging, and environment textures were not nearly as detailed as the game will hopefully strive for. Those expecting Snake Eater on PSP were instead shown something closer to Twin Snakes.

I've never seen Twin Snakes in anything but preview quicktime and divx files... I did notice it looked a bit... Strange (of course, I thought the same thing about sons of liberty) but is it really worse than Sons of Liberty? I guess that goes to show it's the developers more than the system...

Well, as you know, most of your time is spent roaming inside an Alaskan military base.. not much to "oooo'" and "awe" at. I'd say 50% of the game's graphic are on par with MGS2, 20% look slightly better (more character movement and the soldiers look better), and 30% looks not as good. Yet, this can vary… for I own the X-box version of MGS2, which was a poorly done port. Graphics wise the game is outdated like MGS2.

The impressive part is the cut scene animation. The action scenes blow MGS2 out of the water. The animation not the graphics was the impressive part of Twin Snakes. Of course, Snake Eater laughs at them all.

Are you referring to Silicon Knights? The only game I know by them is "Eternal Darkness" which is my favorite survival horror game to date. (RE 4 will change that.)

I picked this up a couple of weeks back with high hopes, seeing that I'm a huge fan of the original, and let me say that I was not disappointed. Great remake with enough 'new' gameplay to keep things fresh.
