Does anyone play this?
For those who do - What's your best time and ratings for scan/items. And what cool tricks have you pulled off.
My best time is 4:57 with bout 80% of items.
I got 100% items a few days ago in 6hrs. I was on 98% but I had EVERYTHING but Artifact of Truth so I spent aaages searching for what I could have missed, went and collected the artifact then learnt it counts as 2%
Recently I've been doing a lot of sequence breaks. Skipping the normal path of the game. Since I'm PAL they're harder for me to do but I've pulled off stuff like getting the Space Jump as your very first item, Having the Gravity suit, Plasma beam and Ice beam before fighting Thardus.
Anyone done any of that?

How in the world do you get the Space Jump before anything else? Unless you have codes, of course.
Anyway, I think my best time + percentage was 8:00 at 100%...Took me forever to find everything...Ugh...
I bet it would make fight Thardus a breeze if you had all of those things before fighting him...I need to try some of that. Can you give any suggestions as to what I have to do to get them? Just jump the gap that goes over there?

I did not use a single cheat or code. It was ALL entirely done by jumps and skill, requiring much patience and many hours to do!
Doing It depends if you're PAL or USA.
If you're using an American Metroid stand on your ship. Scan the bush waaay in front. Hold the scan lock. Goto the very back right of your ship (careful not to fall)
Then Dash Jump - Know when you tap a direction and hit jump you do a kinda quick side jump? Do that.
Let go of L just as you jump.
Samus will literally fly to the right and land on a little ledge allowing you to get the Space Jump
If you're PAL (like me) it gets complicated. You gotta open the door to the Impact Crater (still in landing site though) get a COMBAT lock on one of the blue explody things. Walk backwards (keeping the lock) all the way to your ship and do the same as above.
http://www.metroid2002.com has TONNES of Sequence breaks! You can literally take the game apart with it. They have video clips of this stuff being done which is a big help!

That's EXACTLY what I said to the guys who made the site!!!
Somewhere in it is a link to one of the guys who run it - names Radix. Anyway the link is to Radix's Metroid Prime run. 100% items in 1:37!!!
Not 137hrs. Thats 1 hour 37 minutes. 100% items.

Current world record for speed is 1:17 by a guy named Zoidi.
http://www.metroid2002.com/speed_runs_prime_any_percent_77_zoidi.html
There's the link for the video of him doing it.
---------
Once you start sequence breaking you NEVER go back to the normal way of playing! Having the Space Jump first thing *drools* opens so many possibilities!

I own metroid prime but the thing is stinkin hard and also slightly too creepy for my current gaming taste. I think I'm going to sell it before the second one comes out so I'll be able to get a few dollars back.
btw, I got as far as the omega pirate and then basically gave up.

I got 98% on Metroid Prime and could never find the last missle upgrade.

Grah! The Omega Pirate is hard! You're right though, there are some spots that are kinda creepy. Too bad you didn't -beat- OP..to me, one of the spookiest sequences comes shortly thereafter. Oh, and let's not forget the beating of the Metroid Prime itself...
Calbh got that trick to work just a few minutes ago, BTW. TOO AWESOME! We gotta look into more of this sequence breaking stuff! Forget that old linear crap...XD
BTW, who beat the game on hard mode? I got up to the OP and didn't get any further (got distracted by something else, I reckon, then chickened out and didn't finish it... ) Now I'd get creamed. I don't even remember what you get for finishing the game in hard mode...a gallery or something?

Thanks so much for the tip, SkyNES! I'm gonna try some of the otehr things they have at that site too. Maybe I can really mess the game up

Funny, I didn't have any problems with the Omega Pirate. In fact I had a more difficultime with those stupid Wave Troopers...I do agree with all of you though this is one of my favorate games ever.I really really like the story line. One of the best if you pay attention to it.
The truth is I am fascinated by Genetic Engeneering and what not so this game really gets my intrest. Not too mentiom I simply love aleins and stuff...I especially like how the scan feature lets you learn about the creature and how they act and live.
If there was no SSB:M I would say this is the best game on the Gamecube.

I feel your pain man..... that's all I was missing....
I found the game very easy... even on the so called hard mode..., I wish they had a harder diffculty like the European version.
My first run through was..... 35:57 why? I took my sweet time, no rush, I never wanted the game to end.
My second run through on easy was.... 6:03
On hard mode..... 5:45.
I'm gonna try out those stunts today and see how fast I can beat it then...

A couple of missile upgrades that are hard/unoticeable
Triceratops pit in Magmoor caverns. If you use the X-Ray visor you'll see that there are floating platforms, follow them to find a missile enbedded in rock - super missile it to get it.
Behind your ship - roll through the tunnel.
Overall their are
14 energy tanks
8 power bombs
250 missiles
^ That's not how many u pick up but the total you will have if you get everything. Hope it helps some of you notice what you're missing.
----------
A sequence break I do EVERY time is in the Furnace - Chozo Ruins.
Usually you need the spider ball, but it's possible to jump on top of it! Allowing you to get the Ice Beam before beating Thardus. Then goto Phendrana and go through the Pirate Labs to get to Phendrana's Edge. From there you can jump up branches sticking out of the wall to get a power bomb WAAAYYY before Phazon Mines!
After doing that you can goto Geothermal Core (Magmoor caverns) and get the Plasma Beam! ALL before Thardus
----------------
Omega Pirate help:
Start off by Super Missiling his armour. Then when he goes invisible and pirates drop down - Power bomb then.
Switch to X-Ray visor. When he appears on a Phazon pool hit with another Super Missile. He'll teleport away again - more pirates come and he'll re-appear. Super Missile him again!
I think it's 3-4 super missiles + 2 regular missiles will kill him.
It's not really that hard. Personally I think Meta-Ridley is the hardest (but those who quit at OP never seen him
)

Isn't it weird who people think is the hardest? Meta Ridley was really easy to me...^^ The OP defeated me several times, but Meta Ridley only defeated me once before I got him...XD

The Omega Pirate was pretty hard for me, but it only took me a few tries to get it, where I couldn't even beat Meta Ridley. Ink had to do that. Ugh...Meta Ridley stinks...LOL

Hmmmm.
I beat Meta-Ridley in only 1 or 2 tries. He wasn't very hard for me.
I found Omega Pirate to be ovarall much tougher.

I beat all the bosses on my first try.....except... the first boss
that plant flower mantis thing.
The first time I fought him, I didn't have a clue on what to do....
The worst part was.... the last time I saved... was.... well.... never! So, I had to go through everthing again.

Wow Link, you're awesome... Flaagrah got you too, huh? That would be really frustrating, having to go through everything to get back to Flaagrah again...XP How you beat the OP on the first try is beyond me, though.

Thanks. After that, it was really funny watching my mother verse Flaagrah. (Yeah, my mom plays video games, it's her fault I'm addicted to Chrono Trigger, Metroid, Mario, and Zelda.) She got soooo mad. She did beat it and clocked in at 15:30, I believe.... 80%
The Omega Pirate? The first time I kinda took my time and didn't rush in. I dodged most of his attacks with ease. At the end I was down to 4 energy tanks, because of those space pirate pests. It was fun, I thought. Yeah, I kinda didn't save for a while then too. So, if I died, not a good thing either.
Now, Hard mode.... I'm guessing that was luck on the first try.

So your mom's a gamer, too! Cool... It's not often you see a mom that can whoop Flaagrah...LOL

One time, I was able to defeat the Omega Pirate and I only lost either one or two tanks...can't remember which though...LOL

My first time through the game... I got.... KILLED ON THE PARASITE QUEEN!!! *Hides face in shame!!*
Yes... I got thrashed by the Queen! Pitiful isn't it.... lol
Best way I've found to smash Meta-Ridley is when he does his flying stomp thing to Boost Ball into his feet. It'll knock off 60% of his hit points! NO JOKE! His wings will drop off leaving you with just the second phase of him.
Second Phase: Super Missile his face, switch to power beam and rapid firem issiles into him (To Rapid fire missile - Fire a missile. Hit A to quick/switch to power beam then hit Y again to fire another missile. This will fire twice as many missiles as normal!)
-------------------
All of you - get some practice in sequence breaking and try them out! NOTHING is more fun than Space Jump first thing! Then being able to smash Thardus with a Plasma Beam!!! It's SOO much fun!

Your not alone, one of my friends was taken down by the Parasite Queen, (in the demo version) on his first try, in an eletronics store, with a few people watching (myself included
). At least that didn't happen to ya'..
O'yeah, that Rapid fire missile tip is pretty spiffy! Thanks fer sharing!
