So I am getting back into being a gamer again and I like playing with my bro. Its a great way for us to hang out. However, I hate competing against him, I find that I'm too competitive and we can't just have fun. So, to my question, can you all recommend any good co-op PS2 or PS3 games out there while I'm waiting for Portal 2?

Resistance and R2 have co-op, the former being the more straight forward of the two.
LBP can be played with 4 players, and there's a lot of levels that are meant to be played cooperatively, and many challenges you can only do with 2 people.
If you either don't mind blood or turn it off and don't mind mindless and occasionally annoying banter, Unreal Tournament 3 has a co-op mode, but I can't remember at the moment if you can play that on splitscreen... At the very least, it also has a huge selection of user created levels with team play modes like Warfare and Capture the Flag... I even made one and converted some PC only maps to PS3.
Oh... If you have Internet access and a PS Store account... There's always Scott Pilgrim and Castle Crashers.
http://www.co-optimus.com/system/2/playstation-3.htmlI found that, it's a pretty exhaustive list of disc-based games.

Sadly, one system co-op is dying out. They are making a lot of games for system link co-op now, but unless you got the cash and commitment to buy another system...
There is at least one splinter cell that has co-op, but that one requires a lot of co-operation, which didn't swing to well with my sibling. XD You actually have to do stuff together, not just shoot different targets.

Since you've included asked for PS2 games as well, there is always the Timesplitter's series. I know 2 and 3 have co-op along with splitscreen multiplayer that you can play against bots. The first one I'm not as familiar with so I can't really say anything about it.

I suggest the following PS2 titles:
- X-Men Legends I and II
- Marvel Ultimate Alliance
- Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance I and II
Probably others, but I don't know that many. It seems difficult to find co-op games that allow to play on a single console nowadays...

And Champions of Norrath 1 and 2 the better version of dark alliance. Oh yeah and lord of the rings Two towers and Return of the king

It's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.
I'd also recommend Star Wars battlefront 1&2 and Rachet:Deadlocked for PS2.
