Favorite Video Game Music

I have no idea if this has been done before, and if it has then this thread can be deleted by the mods or whatever.

What is your favorite video game music? What video game do you think has the best music/soundtracks?

My favorite video game music comes from the entire Halo series. Martin O'Donnell knows how to get things done!

I will always love the Chrono Trigger soundtrack.

Xenogears has some good music in it too.

I'm rather fond of almost all of the FF 7,8 and 10 music, and most all of the other FF music I've heard, though hearing One Winged Angel live will do that. Halo also has a fantastic soundtrack that I really enjoyed.

Oh... and Portal, if only for one song.

Einhander - dark, cyberpunk trance-y electronica.

Axelay - 16-bit SNES chiptune jazz.

Radiant Silvergun - Sweeping, orchestral scores, held together throughout the game with a leitmotif.

Ikaruga - Same as above, only with more of an "epic" edge to it.

The F-Zero series. All of it. Ranges from light, jazzy tunes (SNES) to glam rock and death metal (!) (F-Zero X) to a fusion of techno and hard rock (F-Zero GX). Look for the F-Zero X Guitar Arrange Edition for extra fun.

Final Fantasy 6 - You probably know about this one already. A huge range of styles, from ragtime to orchestral to opera to an organ symphony.

Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation/OG2/OGs - Catchy, anime-influenced themes. These can be a bit more hit-or-miss, but a lot of them are really good. Look up the OGs (a Japan-only PS2 remake of the first two games, originally for GBA) soundtrack for extra remix fun.

Akira Yamaoka's Silent Hill OSTs. Sadly, if there are any more SH games he'll no longer be doing the soundtracks for them.

Nobody mentioned Earthbound yet. Or any Zelda game. Or Super Mario Galaxy. Or FFIV.

Final Fantasy IV. My favorite is Within the Giant.

I'm generally a fan of any video game music, however.

No love for Fire Emblem? Hearing the prior absent theme in the epilogue makes me very happy.

I really enjoy the soundtracks to Chrono Trigger/Cross, Halo, Mass Effect, and Final Fantasy series.

Also the soundtrack for Super Smash Brothers Brawl is pretty nice.

Drakengard, probably the best actual dragon game out there, has to have one of the most unique yet weirdest game soundtracks I've heard.
The soundtrack were composed by Nobuyoshi Sano (佐]

My top faves are:

Third Chapter - Sky

Seventh Chapter - Sky

Fourth Chapter - Sky

Lucas Arts made a game a few years back called "Outlaws", which had a spaghetti western soundtrack. It's as good as anything composed by Sergio Leone.

Here's a sample.

Seconded on all of those. For FFVIII, "Liberi Fatali" is my favorite.

Outside of that, I love "The Best is Yet To Come" (MGS, sung in Gaelic), "Way to Fall" (MGS3, though I guess it didn't start as a game song, so it may not count), and I also like about 80%]the pig theme meant that Pokey was the bad guy
I got called an idiot, and told "These games never share characters, they're all independent stories." I guess because that's how it worked for Final Fantasy, they figured it worked that way for everything.

Only one person in this entire thread mentioned Mega Man. Just ONE. ONE PERSON. OUT OF TWENTY REPLIES.

Image

So my favorite game soundtracks are, in no particular order:

MEGA MAN *cough*, Wild Arms 1-3, most Final Fantasies (but especially 4, 6, 8, and 9), Chrono Trigger/Cross, Smash Bros. Brawl, most Zelda games (but especially Link to the Past and Wind Waker), the Mother games, the Donkey Kong Country games (especially 2), quite a few Sonic games (all the Genesis ones, as well as 3D Blast and the two Adventure games), oh and quite a few of the Mario games too (especially Galaxy, Sunshine, 64, and SML).

I'm sure there's a couple I've forgotten, but that's about the size of it.

Hmmm....I love game music. I wish I had a band just to cover game music. But, alas.....the Final Fantasy Victory fanfare on accordion is about the best I can do. Here are some of my favorites:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Perhaps the greatest game soundtrack ever.....this soundtrack brings much nostalgic tracks and excellent remixes.

Megaman 4 - Out of all the Megaman games, I think this one might be my favorite....

Megaman 7 - However, 7 has an excellent soundtrack as well. Something about the Megaman music is just plain awesome.

Metroid - The music really sets the tone for the game.....and how about that escape music and the end theme? Powerful stuff right there!

Final Fantasy VI, VII, and VIII - These are the only ones I've really played. "Dancing Mad" from VI is one of the most incredible boss battle themes ever. Of course, all the tracks are better when The Black Mages play them.

Mother 1 and 2 - The music is quirky and it fits the quirkiness of the game series. "Pollyana" is beautiful.

Sonic CD - I don't care what side you're on, both the American and Japanese soundtracks are good.

While Final Fantasy X did not have the greatest FF soundtrack, this makes its battle theme all the more enjoyable
