Freeware games you recommend

Hey all,

Recently I have become interested in freeware games. Not because I don't like buying my games, but I enjoy seeing the kind of effort and creativity that goes into freeware games.

As many of you know, Cave Story is a good example.

Eternal Daughter is also another good one:

Eternal Daughter's massive slowdown kills it for me. I got sick of it and was getting nowhere so I tossed it.

I have been meaning to download Clouds though.

I actually host a brief slot on the Gamecast where I find new and interesting freeware games and share them. You can find the links in the last few episodes' threads. Feeds my addiction to the indie genre as I'm steadily amassing a large freeware library.

Then there is La Mulana which I hate.

I'm developing a my own freeware videogame series, though I won't have the chance to officially start on it till next year.

The series will be an RPG series called 'Legacy of Estharia' and there will be more info posted here when I get a working demo and the website up.

A word of advice for anyone who decides to pick up that freeware game...be sure to play through the Hell Temple at the end...MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

The Traveller's Guide is my own freeware creation. Though it's nowhere near being done yet, what I do have done is fully playable and (hopefully... ^_^; ) bug-free, and should keep you entertained for at least a couple of hours.

I will put up a third vote for Warning Forever. It's possibly the best shooter game I've come across. (well, except Touhou, but it's not freeware.)

Also... anyone remember "ROM check fail"? That one was a good laugh, if the gameplay was somewhat awkward...

I mentioned it in the horror games thread, but I think the Chzo Mythos games (5 Days a Stranger, 7 Days a Skeptic, Trilby's Notes, and 6 Days a Sacrifice) are worth most people's time. They're old-school adventure games with a murder mystery/horror theme. They're not for everyone - they earn their "horror" designation, even though the graphics are basic. There is also some language (none of it what I would call "gratuitous," however), and one sex scene, although it's far tamer than anything you'd see in a modern PG-13 movie). However, they are well-written, and more adventure games = more better in my book.

Not only do I second the entirety of the Chzo Mythos, but really anything Yahtzee has created with the AGS engine. 1213 is his lesser known stab at science fiction horror, and has the distinction of having the Best Secret Ending ever concieved in gaming. Meanwhile, Adventures in the Galaxy of Fantabulous Wonderment exhibits a softer, snarky side to the guy, as well as being one of the few Adventure game to have side quests (though a couple people here might find the ending controversial). And of course, Art of Theft, which is definitely welcome in anyone's library.

Yeah...Yahtzee's games are very very good...though I have only begun to play two of them (The Art of Theft and Adventures in the Galazy of Fantabulous Wonderment).

Man, I need to refresh myself on Art of Theft. I had every corner of that game down, then forgot to back it up when I wiped my drive in September.
