I Have boook titled "How to Draw: Anime and Game Characters; Volume 5 Bishoujo game Characters.
Tadashi Ozawa.

Anyways it seems these kind of games aren't any different than RPGs, like Knighrs of the Old republic. But it seems the focus is more on ever day living some how. Like at school the "Athletic Girl" woulds participate in a relay reace and such... so you actually control the characters? or just control what happenes and creat your own story?

Bishoujo games?

I am not really an expert on the subject but I echo Cephas...

A great many of these games are supposed to be hentai titles.

hmm wierd.. that kinda stinks... nothing about hentai was mentioned in the how to draw book though,,, i guess it just depends on the artists imagination... 0.0;

Aren't these generally referred to as "Dating Sims" of sorts.... the kind of stuff that "Piro" is into in "Megatokyo?"

Sadly (or fortunately) I've never played these... or seen them so I can't add to that... but I know I've read some about this, though I can't place exactly where (might have been over at MegaTokyo, or some other site in the past)... anyway, my understanding is they run the full range like most Japanese stuff, from innocent stuff all the way to the big "H."

You might want to consider checking the Megatokyo forums if that's what your'e talking about.... I know they have forums on these sorts of things and it might be worth "lurking" over there for a while (it's a secular board though... keep that in mind).

Sorry I'm not much more help.

There are non-hentai dating sims, but because of how easy they are to make, there are hundreds of hentai dating sims... All they gotta do is use the same engine over and over and draw a new set of pictures and tell a new stpry (and the stories in these games are most likely really shallow)

Non porn games include:

Love Hina
Tokimeki Memorial
Sentimental Grafitti
Graduation (the only such game available in the US)

And, the more popular Dating sims often have both H and non-h versions.

If you want to see a dating sim in action, check out "Excel Saga" subtitled... Of course, ADV fudged a bit on the options for the game... It wasn't sexual at first... At least not as blatant as it was in the ADV change... But, dating sims are really like interactive storybooks with some variables that judge whether you will get a certain girl or not... They are pretty much only for guys but there may be a couple dating sims that go the other way. Oh, another show that shows a dating sim is "Boogiepop Phantom" but that is a hentai dating sim...

A show that's not hentai that plays out exactly like a dating sim, and even has a dating sim to go with it is "Love Hina." It's not as complex as Tokimeki Memorial is, but they are pretty much all shallow. A game in the US that features a dating sim like experience is "Harvest moon" though it is much more simplistic that most of the real games. (oh, and Azure Dreams as well)

I did read about a PS1 game called Thousand Arms that is supposed to be a mix between a RPG and a dating sim.

As of now, I believe the only true dating sim in the US is a PC game called "Graduation"

It's not hentai, but it is loaded with fanservice... I don't know that from experience, but from what the representative told me (I haven't played it yet, but would love to just to get that experience) The company that releases it primarily releases hentai games, but they wanted to test the waters with this one to see if a non-hentai dating sim could make it here... Whether they succeeded or not is unknown (I'm going to have to assume not, because I haven't heard of any more getting here...)

"pretty girl" games are another name for Dating sims... I don't think that covers fighting games or action games... RPG's can have a dating sim ELEMENT, and "magical girl" doesn't describe a genre of video games, but a genre of anime... Sailormoon (a "magical girl" show) had video games that spread over many genres... Puzzle, Fighting, RPG, beat-em-up (like Double Dragon) etc... That's not called a "bishoujo" game, even though the show and manga were called "Bishoujo Senshi Seera Muun" because Bishoujo means "pretty girl" Bishoujo games, as a genre, are dating sims. So If you don't feel that answers your question, you're probably asking the wrong question.

EDIT: I should say "Magical Girl" doesn't cover a video game functional genre, but only a story genre... Bishoujo is refering to a functional genre, like "Tournament Fighter" or "RPG" or "Real Time Strategy" whereas Magical Girl would refer to a story Genre like "Save the world" or "damsel in distress" or "psychological thriller" However, Bishoujo games usually don't stray far from the story genres that are familiar... Functionally, they involve stats related to emotions and money and such, and very little interactivity, but they also describe the nature of the story, which is, of course, to get a pretty girl... The real functional genre descriptor is "Dating Sim" but Bishoujo game is only mildly more descriptive. Games reffered to as Bishoujo games can't be anything but dating sims or, perhaps, pornographic or fanservice filled interactive video books... Generally, though, the term applies to Dating Sims...

I do! :shady: It tends to help in communicating, too, unless you're all masters of 1337-5p34k.

While this is off topic, what i meant was strict rules for grammer and spelling are not important in casual written communication as long as your point gets across... Also, many "rules" as for what's good grammer and what's not are very outdated. Some things that were slang at one point are no longer slang, but are widely recongnized words, and the structure of the English language has changed a great deal from 1611 to now... Some words have additional meanings they didn't once hold, and that changes thing such as "He's a good guy to have around." While around is a prepostion, it also doubles as an adjective, so it's not taking it's prepostional form in that sentance. Therefore, there is no fault in having the word "around" in that case without an object. I think very fast and my fingers don't always keep up (throw some other problems in there, too) and I don't always make everything in good form, and by good I mean acceptable by an English teacher, however I think that sticking to archaic rules of communication that don't hold the same importance as they did in the past is actually a hindrance to communication...

oh my cousin can answer questions about these games very, very clearly. he obviously is addicted to games such as these...

only such game i played is Princess Maker 1 and 2. that is a very, very sweet game. although it gets boring after 70+ hours, it still is quite fun to play occasionaly.

very difficult to make your 'daughter' become a princess. really, really difficult. but i did ^o^!

Ooh, I played and finished Princess Maker 2... She got married to the prince once, and the other time she got married to, like, the tailor I think... I didn't think about that one, it was released in the US, but only one of them... There have been sequals, but none in the US...

And, NO, the sims isn't a dating sim even if the character do date...
