Why would they need such a thing?

And soon we'll get parental controls on both systems and it'll be just like having access to the internet through a computer. I don't see the big deal. And I don't see how anyone would be surprised porn websites would target kids.

That strikes me as a bit out of touch with the legal system. Why it's surprising is simple: because those responsible could go to jail forever if they were caught REALLY targeting porn to kids.

Don't see how you could prove it. Normally kids aren't the ones shelling out hundreds of dollars for this console, parents are in the middle between connecting their kids to porn through a Wii/PS3. Simple legal argument to say they're just doing it for the adult gamers (average gaming age is lower-mid 20's). So again, I'm not surprised porn sites are doing something sleezy and immoral :-P

Wow. Welcome to the Internets, folks. What's one thing the Internet is known for having in spades? Porn. That's Internet 101. Where are the parents?\

how true.
it is like all the other criminal activities people commit. it strikes W/o warning and no matter how many firewall systems and the like you have, it still will happen. lets face it, if you wore kevlar every second of everyday for the rest of your life, you could still be killed by a gun. so why do people think that there is a all powerful block for porn? All one can do is be prudent in pressing the little red exit button at the top right corner of the window when something pops up.

Whew... it sounded at first like something the Wii was designed for... But it's the other way around it seems.

That's really sad.
The Wii seems to be selling the best of the three system and in my mind is Nintendo's best idea. Now people will need ZoneAlarm or BeSafe on their video game consoles.
Before you know it, they will have "M" game filters.

Where are you getting that information from? The 360 sold about 10 million so far, the wii is currently at 3.6 million, and the ps3 lagging at 1 million.

I didn't get it from anywhere. Sheesh, it's all factual here.
That's what rumor says at least. Most of my friends want a PS3 the most since they are casual gamers thus wanting graphics out of everything.
My cousin traded his 360 for a PS3 saying the 360 was nothing more than an Xbox with a little bit of a graphic enhancement with 3 numbers in the title.

To be fair, he said its selling the best, not it has sold the most.
XBox 360 had a year head start, ya know.

Bumping this, this is on-topic.
BLU-RAY will not support porn.
Sadly, I agree with the website, Blu-ray really could fail because of this choice. As morally wrong as it is, it's still very very nice for the pockets. I kinda wanted PS3 to win, though.

I was staying out of the gamers galore (well, not posting, to keep the fanboy down) but...
Avenue Q FTW!!!!
All this mess will only last... "for now"
Then people will remember, HEY! The internet is a dangerous place, even when accessed through a gaming system!!
As for Sony not supporting Porn... Wow... Sony is the only console company to allow Christian games, too... Who would have thought that from the company that first had GTA3... I don't know what to think...
?

From what I understood by reading people's responses on Sony refusing porn, it seems that it isn't actually true. There are already porn titles in blu-ray, just maybe not available in the US right now (they have it in Japan). Since I don't know anything about the industry, their opinions were that perhaps the actual manufacturers just have too many requests right now to do it. I dunno though, as I said, I know nothing about the industry.

As far as I know, with the exception of Hentai, so-called "XXX" titles have been pretty much illegal in Japan up until a few years ago... There were censorship laws in place there that prevented hardcore porn from being released, part of the reason people went to anime for their fix there... Despite the legal ban being lifted, there is still a stronger social sense that may keep Sony in that position. Certain things associated with the harder stuff still carry strong social taboos... It's not all porn, just the hardcore stuff that Sony is blocking, I would wager. That would be universal for the company...
EDIT 2: Electric Boogaloo!

Hey Omega...Link and I told you so. ]
Looking at the wiki on bluray, I'm reminded of something....
Disney... They may have lost a lot of ground, but they're still a powerfull force, and Disney partnered with Blu-ray... Pirates 2 and Pirates 3... Vs... (insert cheesy inappropriate title here) rated xxx... Which sells more

Do you have a link to anything about that? My link was from just a day or so ago, though it isn't the most complete article.

I don't think so. I'm a bit too young to remember it, but others aren't. Back in the day, there were two warring formats, much like Blu Ray and HD DVD. They were Betamax and VHS. Sony was the supporter of Betamax. Sony also said that adult films would NOT be allowed on Betamax.
What was the result of this? The VHS market exploded in popularity and Sony's Betamax failed miserably.
Look, I know as Christians we have a moral aversion to porn. But the fact of the matter is that the porn business is a huge industry, and it broke Betamax, and it's going to break Blu Ray (Sony apparently doesn't learn their lessons very well).
From a business standpoint, this is the worst thing Sony can do. It's seriously like they're pulling out all the stops to ensure the PS3 is a complete and total failure. And honestly? I think this seals it. They have put the final nail in the coffin with this.

I honestly can't see what the point is to having internet on your game system. Won't you have to have wireless internet to even access it on your ps3 or WII?
I'll stick to a mac. and use my PS2 and N64. XD heh

hah hah, yea i found out firsthand with my wii that it can be used for that. I promptly deleted the browser. That stuff is just too **** tempting sometimes.

I don't believe that the lack of pornography was the reason why Betamax lost, rather that it was simply the cheaper format. True it was overall better, but it cost more than VHS. So in the end, RCA won. Do you have a source for that information?

Well, games will be able to get patches like computer games, so any little bugs or exploits in the games you like to play, will get fixed and such. It should make games have more replayability, which is good for the consumer in that if a game takes up more of our time, that's less time bored and wanting a new game to play.
And it's becoming more and more common to have a wireless router in a house. My family isn't the richest in the world but we have 3 computers and a wireless router (from our ISP) and my computer itself is connected wirelessly, the more expensive PS3 comes with a wireless adapter so it should be able to plug into the internet fairly easily in my setup. Not that I'll be buying a PS3 anytime soon.
Sony's only chance as a business with Blu-Ray would depend on the Christian gamers to make up for this loss. But I wouldn't trust that to hold a business together, at least not one that isn't an outspoken Christian business.

You don't play too many multiplayer games do you?
Gears of War on the xbox360 with xbox live. Playing with like 31 other people is pure fun.
