Hm so I was randomly looking through different things on Wiki for amusement, one rabbit hole through another, when I got to the link of Shigeru Miyamoto, who created beloved titles such as Mario, Donkey Kong (orginal), Zelda, Starfox, and others, to find out at the top that he died, well, yesterday :/ Jan 8th 07. Time to wave byebye someone who created so much great entertainment.

Whoa, how reliable is this info? I'd hate to think that Miyamoto is dead. o_o On the one hand, it's Wiki, so you never really know. XD On the other hand...that's really sad, then! :(

Hmmm now that you mention that, I'm looking it up on Google and not finding too many hits, except jokes of him dying :/ *sigh* Better not be another joke, I mean, if Wiki's not up to giving people relyable information (knowing people can edit it, whenever), then what is?

I don't think this is true. The problem with wikipedia is that anyone can edit any entry anytime. If enough people agree with you, it becomes part of the wikipedia entry.

To Quote Stephen Colbert:

Stephen Colbert wrote:You see, any user can change any entry, and if enough other users agree with them, it becomes true. ... If only the entire body of human knowledge worked this way. And it can, thanks to tonight's word: Wikiality....

We should apply these principles to all information. All we need to do is convince a majority of people that some factoid is true. ... What we're doing is bringing democracy to knowledge.

If this was true, it would be all over the Internet by now, and since I haven't heard anything about this...chances are Miyamoto is still alive and kicking.

That's what I was thinking. I mean, even the news and newspapers would show something; Miyamoto's quite well known. It's good to know, though. XD And yeah, Tenshi, Wiki can be pretty unreliable sometimes. It's usually reliable when it comes to scientific information and that sort of thing, but researching other things like upcoming video games (or their creators, as it seems XD) can be pretty unreliable. I remember when I was following KH2's release a year and a half to two years ago, the Wiki article on it would change on a daily basis. XD

i seriously doubt that this information is true...

Well, I'm glad to hear he isn't dead. Odd that I feel that, because he has no personal connection to me. I suppose it is simply because I have enjoyed much of his work.

The good thing about Wikipedia is that so many people read it that the majors articles are actually policed somewhat well. Within about three hours the erroneous information was removed.

Maybe they got it confused with Scooby Doo's creator. How old is he, anyway?

If you read the other posts, you would have found out that there are no other links. It was a false rumor.

I did read the other posts, but I wanted to read the link she posted.

I'll double check though. I don't remember anyone confirming it was a rumor as opposed to just assuming it was.

It was just a rumor. There's no evidence supporting it. Go to wikipedia's history on Miyamoto, and you'll see that somebody deleted that comment.

Good gosh, don't scare me like that. D=

I feel the same as uc, I think. I've really enjoyed (as many have) his works and greatly admired and respected the man. The day he truly dies will be a sad day for many (myself included) indeed.

Should I change the title of this thread to avoid further confusion? Or is that not worth it?

Tom Dincht wrote:I did read the other posts, but I wanted to read the link she posted.

I'm not completely sure what you mean, but you can find everything you need from here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Shigeru_Miyamoto&action=history

Not far down the page you'll find an edit saying "There is no evidence that Shigeru Miyamoto is dead." and the version just beneath it is the one that includes the false information, which would have been what Tenshi no Ai saw. This is likely one person abusing Wikipedia, not any sort of larger rumor.

Well that person has no taste in humor.

I don't think there is much more to talk about so I don't think there would be a point to changing the thread name.

...Not to worry, Kamakazi--simply read the previous posts and you'll find that it was all just a nasty rumor. XD;

Wow that's so weird... Sad. too. We'll just have to keep playing his games to remember him! XD

Once again, we've already determined that this was a rumor started by someone on Wikipedia (the encyclopedia that can be edited by anyone, anywhere, allowing for a lot of bad information XD). Maybe you should change the thread's title, UC...XD;

I guess I'm not the only victim of posting just by the title.

That was what I was thinking as far as changing the title. I'll do it, following this post...

Shigeru is dead ~ long live Shigeru?

I don't get the point of people doing things like this. Why get people all worked up over nothing?

To be honest, that might be a reason unto itself for some people. There are those who would enjoy making people upset. One does have to wonder why people would falsely edit Wikipedia, though. I can actually relate to a certain degree, because a more mischievous part of me has often wanted to make a tongue-in-cheek edit. However, I've restrained myself because I respect the idea behind Wikipedia and it would be pointless.
