I was originally going to get a PSP, till somehow my dad is like "No you must take money for christmas presents".

Well... okay... Because of that I'll most likely be able to also purchase a 360 instead of a PSP.

So, take your pick. Which one should I buy?

The main driving point for the PSP is probably Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. I could not care as much for the other games.

The 360 on the other hand has a bit more I am interested in, such as Gears of War, Dead Rising, and Lost Planet.

Well, it's all up to what kind of games YOU like the best. There is never a BEST system but rather a BEST system for a person.

For you, I would say 360 because you listed more games for that that you wanted. A lot of people are buying a 360 just for the Halo franchise. -_-

They might as well make a "Halo System" that cost 600$ and only plays Halo games. People would buy it. You know they would.

Let me ask a question in return: Can you make your own games for a PSP?

I voted for the PSP. XD Portable internet access, music, good games, portable movies on UMD, etc. etc., and the Final Fantasy Tactics port? Yeah, I'd go with the PSP. XD

As much as I loved Portable Ops, the X-box 360 is the better buy. Next to the DS, it's my favorite and most played system of '06.

I'm not going to cast a vote, not yet at least. I have to point one thing out.

At first, I was a rabid PSP hater. I hated the PSP and everything it stood for. It had games I watned and games I didn't want. I was torn between the DS and the PSP. The DS had better multiplayer games, though a majority of its library were games that I didn't care about, just like the PSP.

So I borrowed a DS from a friend of mine, played it for awhile, and I loved it. I was set on getting the DS and not the PSP, and I was already saving up. Then it happened - I just didn't care about the DS anymore. The lack of good games in the library and the gimmick of the touch screen just irritated me. So I went for a PSP instead, and I was much more pleased.

Now, I know this is hard to compare; the DS is nothing like the 360. I'm just pointing out, the thing that looks like the 'safe deal' isn't alwasy the safe deal. The 360 may look like a better deal at the moment, but take the time to think it through. Also, I'd like to point out a few pros and cons for each system.

PSP - Pros:
Portable
Multiple features (internet, music, photos, etc)
The good games in the library are really good.

PSP - Cons
Thumbstick takes awhile to adjust to sometimes (give a game an hour and you'll be good)
Console sometimes comes with broken pixels on the screen
Half of the game library is total crap

360 - Pros
A few solid titles
Good graphics
Good online service

360 - Cons
Lack of customer support
Some games are optimized for hi-def TV's and don't play properly on normal ones
Console still has bugs in it
Extremely limited game library

I want to elaborate some on the 'lack of customer support' thing. I heard that the game Dead Rising, if played on your 360, has a chance of burning out the hard drive on the console... or something like that. I'd be careful getting one of these; Microsoft has already said that if a game breaks your console they will not replace your console, and you're out however much you paid for it.

Lack of good games I would highly disagree with. While I can think of only a few titles worth getting for a PSP (MGSPO, Syphon Filter, Final Fantasy Tactics) the DS is on a whole another level. Ouendan, Elite Beat Agents, Final Fantasy 3, Jump Super/Ultimate Stars, Phoenix Wright, Mario Kart, Tetris, New Mario Brothers, Animal Crossings, etc etc etc. I would say, without a doubt, that the DS is clearly a better handheld when it comes to gaming. The PSP however, is clearly superior with it's many entertainment features.

I don't care for "multiple features". I just want to play games. I don't want an "entertainment device". I want a "gaming device". It is obvious that Sony is marketing their stuff as "entertainment devices". Especially since Kaz Hirai has said:

'If someone told you that the PSP is a portable gaming device, shoot these people. The PSP is not a portable gaming device, it is really a convergent portable entertainment device.'"

The game that stands out the most on the PSP is Metal Gear Solid Portable-Ops. That is why I want a PSP. Nothing else is as much of a major factor into wanting a PSP. If you can offer any other worthy PSP titles that screams "Buy me". That may change.

360 - Pros
A few solid titles
Good graphics
Good online service

I would say that Dead Rising, Oblivion, Gears of War, Perfect Dark Zero, Rainbow Six Vegas, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, and even Halo is more than just "a few solid titles". Certainly more than what the PSP has to offer. Each of these games have caught my eye and has convinced me to get a 360.

I believe it's only referring to unreadable text.

This is a bunch of fanboy bull. The only problem with Dead Rising is that it's made for HDTV's, and if you play it on a standard TV the text is unreadable. The save system is also screwy, effectively rendering the game unbeatable if it's saved at an inconvenient time. It will not "damage your system" (I don't even see how that would be possible from a technological perspective).

And as the proud owner of a DS and a PSP, I will say I haven't been able to find my PSP charger for about seven months, and I haven't had a need to go out and replace it. Whereas my DS charger is permanently plugged into my outlet. I'd say given Ryan's tastes in games, the 360 is the way to go for him.

Yeah, it's quite apparent you've got more reasons to go for the 360 than the PSP. It may be more expensive, but it looks like you'd be happier with it in the long run.

Besides, does the PSP play exclusive host to a game which features a chainsaw gun? I think the choice is clear.

Heard it from an EB games employee. He said that it was something like, the disc had to spin so fast that it burnt out something on the console.

And we all know how much EB and Gamestop employees really know.... I hate to say it but no matter how much these people think they know they still work in game retail.

I can personally attest that Microsoft's customer service is first rate. I had my launch 360 replaced last May because yes I had the "rings of death." It took 3 days to get here and another 3 to get back which means I was kicking with a brand new 360 in a week. They didn't ask any questions I just told them it was broke they had me go boot up a game and when it crashed were like "all right well send it to us." Microsoft is finally owning up to their early hardware mistakes. They're replacing every launch 360 that someone has a problem with with brand new ones. Which basically means if you have a problem with any 360 now you can get it replaced no matter. To the people that for whatever reason payed to get their's repaired they are being refunded. And not to mention Microsoft just a week or so ago extended every 360's warranty another year. If that's not good customer service I don't know what it is.

Yes early 360's had their problems and it was crap that Microsoft was denying that it was a big problem. But that's a different story now. Besides if anyone is really worried about overheating even on a new one they can throw a Nyko Intercooler on the back like I did. It keeps the thing room temperature even after a 6 hour Gears of War marathon.

MSP you've already said it yourself. The 360 is just an awesome all around system you cannot go wrong with the good games that system has. And trust me Xbox Live Gold is completely worth it. 2007 is only going to be a better year for the system.

If you are planning to get a 360, I suggest you still wait for a few months (mid-2007). This year, the 360 should be re-released with the redesigned, smaller chip that should significantly reduce the amount of heat emitted.

In this hardware revision, Microsoft will also have the opportunity to clean up on hardware bugs that might have contributed to its early mistakes, or even add new features. Furthermore, by then, a lot of the major 2007 titles will have been released, meaning you will hear which titles are actually worth getting.

There is no reason to hurry with your purchase as far as I am concerned. Heck, you can even get a Xbox Live account without a 360, like I did.

Dude your making the right choice 360 has GoW and Rainbow Six vegas not to mention halo 1 and 2 backwords compatible. If you get XBL tell me your tag so we can play some

I doubt a guy at EBgames has a reason to lie. He doesn't get payed more if you buy the most expensive system.

EDIT: If you knew your PSP would sit and collect dust, why did you even make this thread?
I prefer PSP for ME, but for you I prefer the 360.

This has also been one of the biggest flaws in the Resident Evil games for a long time.

Yes. At the very least, there will be a smaller chip to reduce heat and power concerns. A smaller chip is also cheaper.

The other aspects is my gut feeling considering what services MS has introduced this past year.

In my opinion, if it is expensive, the only reason to hurry to purchase one is either: a) you have played through the rest of your games, b) the 360 will not exist soon.

There have also been reports of a delay from Q1 2007 to mid-2007... hence why I said mid-2007.

My gut feeling is that MS will also release a new bigger hard drive as well (because of the expansion of their marketplace services)....

I can attest that there are Gamestop/ EB employees who are fanboys that try to push their system of choice on you. I've worked there every holiday season for the last 4 years, and let me tell you, some of the temp employees really seem to have an agenda. For example, one of the temps at the store I've been working at can't seem to sell a 360 without trying to talk people out of it. He claims that "50% of xbox 360's come back defective" and "The PS3's bugs are all firmware". Ugh. Thankfully he isn't technically minded. I can usually set the customer at ease about his doomsday prophesies. I also usually get some good laughs. Needless to say... He doesn't like me very much. xD

Also, you wouldn't believe the junk that customers tell us is going to happen. One customer walked in convinced that the Nintendo Wii was failing. Another walked in saying that Zelda was coming to Xbox 360. He even asked to pre-order it. Yet another came in and said "I heard that PS3 plays Xbox games" and "My friend's PS1 can play PS2 games. He put a mod chip in it and they run perfectly." As much crap as the employees get for being misinformed, there is 10x the amount of misinformation out there. I know it's the employee's job to be informed, but not everyone is as intelligent to know when things are just plain wrong.

Interesting tidbit there Omega. Is the loud-fan the main concern? Or rather, I would assume that it's overheating thus requiring a large-fan that is the concern.

I might wait a bit, however a loud fan doesn't bother me too much.

I got to play a PSP today, and it's pretty neat. I like my DS, but I may get the Sony when I have the money. However, I may face the same choice . . . and I voted for the 360. What to do, what to do . . . XD

Yeah well I think I will get a PSP eventually. Perhaps sometimes early-mid 2007.

Anyways an update. I bought my 360 today! With me I got Lost Planet Collectors Edition and Gears of War. I hope to later pick up Rainbow Six: Vegas, Mass Effect, and of course, Blue Dragon.

Well, MSP, every game you just mentioned looks like one I wanna buy.

I plan on maybe purchasing a 360.

Sucks I'll be missing MGS4.
