Anyone here picking up Gears of War, tomorrow? Gamespot just gave it a 9.6 (!) and I'm pretty stoked now.

Mad world seemed a very odd choice for that commercial.

I dunno, that trailer just kind of "clicked" with me for some reason. XD

Anyway, after seeing these reviews, I'm really looking forward to this one. Money's tight, so I probably won't be getting for a few weeks, at least.

Also, some of you may be interested to know that there's apparently an option to filter "extreme content", which will take out the most extreme of the gore and language.

It seemed more like an AMV.

Game looks excellent but I'm assumming for the commercial it's a 360 only release.

That version is a Tears For Fears cover. While Gary Jules can sing pretty well Tears For Fears rocks.

I've been playing the game for an hour now and it's everything promised and more. I'm about to hop into multiplayer. Yeah I'm kinda wasting valuable Gears of War time right now typing it so back to hacking Locust with chainsaws! This is the game to own for 360 without a doubt.

I got it the other day and as of tonite me and my buddy ran through the campain in co-op and let me say that it is probably the best if not the best (Besides Ghost Recon:AVWF)third person shooter.

Wow... I'm putting Lost Planet aside for a bit. This game is SUPERB, AMAZING, and just.. downright GOREGEOUS. (PUN'D!)

Stellar cinematographic presentation, amazing characters, perfect combat system. Man... this is like... blowing my mind away; Half-Life 2 style. Though I wouldn't say the plot holds strong.

I freakin love this game.
If you ask me, it owns the overrated Halo (prepares for fanboys to come in on warthogs and piledrive him).

FRIGGIN CHAINSAW GUNZ! lolZ

MSP, that was so punny. XD

I'm not a huge fan of these games, and would die in five seconds if I tried to play, but after watching my boy and his friends play, I must say I am very impressed.

Hmm... Well, I'm sure Micro$oft will hire professional writers to make a backstory for it that will exist outside of the games to make up for the story in-game...

*cough*

I would just like to say that I love bees...

... is the greatest marketing campaign for any game ever, and Halo would have had a horrible story without the novels and I Love Bees... Maybe if something like that happens for GoW, it will make the experience as interesting as Halo...

*cries again*

Halo 2 has co-op, and being someone who likes games for story, having 2 master chiefs when there is only one of them (and only 2 surviving 2.0's, the other being a Woman in a coma) does distract from the story... It's like, wait, where does this other 2.0 go when it comes time to talk? It's weird... Maybe the female 2.0 will make an appearance in Halo 3... That would be awesome...

My point is, if the story is allready bad, and playing multiplayer is in a different branch of game player for me than playing a game for a story (I place higher importance on the latter of the two) then playing the game on co-op won't help the experience of the latter for me... Wheras, I love Bees made Halo interesting for me... I picked up on terms and names and places... It expanded that world for me...

If they do something like that for GoW, it may become interesting for me...

Yeah well Bob. The game has other major characters in it. The second player just takes control of another one.

And last night, Link and I did co-op over xBox Live. It was totally sweet.

I can understand liking a game for story. But it's important to realize most FPSes or TPSes don't have major stories to begin with. It's been like that for quite a while. That's why games like Half-Life were so revolutionary.

Gears of War co-op FTW. I still have Halo (glares at the haters) tendencies which led to Grubb grumbling quite a bit as he came back to resussitate(sp?) my broken and dying body.

gears was pretty good, allbetit way too short, and the story i guess wasnt too bad, but the problem was you really didnt know what it was unless you read the booklet. it was kinda like, "here's a gun now go kill things" that and i cant get over how huge everyone is, i mean its like the wwf or somthing^^ that and giant boots

I've played it a little, mostly just watched my friend play it. It can basically be summed up like this: Gears of War is a first-person shooter in third-person.

Zilch and Grubb introduced me to Gears. And yes, it is amazing. And unlike when Zilch plays with Grubb...when he plays with me...it's me who is always yelling "MY FACE GOT BLOWN OFF" or. "Whats a bezerker?" Or hearing Grubb yell...

"RUN STEVE RUN"

I love the Hammer of Dawn thingy! My boyfriend accidently blew himself up with it and I found it rather amusing.

Been watching (just watching) it a lot more recently, and the game is beautiful, I must say, but they were still a bit careless with some of the clipping and I'm iffy on some of the textures. I haven't seen clipping in a game since I played GTA: Vice City, and that's on PS2 with a lot less power, so it's possible to avoid showing it if the cameras are programmed well enough. Also a bit of pop-in, which I see in things like Shadow of the Colossus but I didn't expect to see at all in this gen, particularly not on something so close... With those few blurry textures, the clipping, and the pop-in, it seems like they were really pushing this game to the limits of what they could do and went a bit too far at times.

Those really are minor issues, though. I would like to give the game a shot, I really love that satellite gun, moreso than the chainsaw (it's not the FIRST game to have a chainsaw, you know, I find the satellite Gun to be a little more interesting) There doesn't seem to be any real plot... Underground things came to the surface, humans are fighting them, things die... Lots of battlefield bad-a banter, no revealing dialogue... No backstories, a few clever quips but... Pretty much zero plot. That does bother me, at least in a game that has characters in it at all... I guess SoC is pretty weak on plot, too, but I guess I'm a sucker for a dead girlfriend, and a puzzle game has more appeal to me than a shooter...
