Though this doesn't have too much information, I'm positive about this game. I've long felt that platformers work much better in 2D, and though I liked Super Mario 64 I haven't been as enthusiastic about other recent offerings.

Looks awesome... Not sure if there is any real benefit to the second screen, and I honestly hope they don't abuse the stylus, but this looks nice.

There's minigames that use the second screen, but that's about it, I believe.

I shall pout now. ;)

I bought this game the day it came out. I'm on the second castle in world 8 (the last, I'd be willing to wager).

It is an incredibly awesome game, and I still haven't unlocked half the secret stuff yet. In fact, there's two worlds I can't access at all. If you just plow through the game without searching for the secret exits, you'll skip worlds 4 and 7 entirely.

My biggest complaint. The only times the game lets you save is after you beat a castle/fortress for the first time, or when you open up one of the secret paths with Star Coins. I'm at the last castle in World 8, I went and did a whole bunch of stuff, and couldn't save any of it. So I lost all my progress when I turned off the game. It sucks. If it wasn't for that, I would give this game a 9, but lack of saving turns it into a 7. Yeah. Losing your progress is not fun.

Agh! That sucks. ERmn... I think nintendo said that their are about 80 levels... so I have no idea how that fits into the world scheme. I'm gonna buy this sooooon!

It looks fairly interesting. I don't have an easy way to play this game, but I'll have to make an attempt, because I like the old sidescroller types.

Ditto to what Kae said : this game is simply awesome. But yeah, the not letting you save until parts thing is a bit frustrating, but still good, none-the-less.

Yeah, well, he clared it on ever mode but Normal and beat Sephiroth and plus, if he ever wants to play through it again, he can just borrow it from me.

Update. It seems once you beat the game, there is an option added that allows you to save from the menu on the world map. That bumps it up to an 8, because that's a great feature, but WHY do you have to beat the game to get it? :\

I kinda like not being able to save whenever you want. It adds and extra level of challenge to it. It's very similar to how it was in Super Mario World. You only could save after ghost houses or castles, so you had to beat levels in chunks and get to a save point. All the games before that, you couldn't even save at all. *shrug* So it's fine to me. I didn't even know this was out yet till today, so I ran out and picked it up. I'm only on world 3, but so far I love it. Am I the only one that finds the turtle shell power a little useless? It looks cool and it's fun, but I always slide right off a cliff.
Ah well, the game is awesome awesome awesome.

sorry about double posting :)

reasons:
1. Tom has it
2. I got $35 dollars, and they called me so I had pity for them
3. It just stops being fun after you beat Sephiroth. I mean after spending hours on end going up and down nobody castle, I wanted to barf. Okay.

I agree to a point. However, I'd like to point out that Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. are different in one distinct way: SMW was for a console, NSMB is for a handheld.

Handheld gaming, by its nature, is usually a bit shorter and less involved than console gaming, for the reason that most people don't play handheld games for an extended period of time. Some people pull out their DS or PSP when they're waiting for a bus, waiting for a friend, so on and so forth.

Console games usually are played for a longer period of time. Thus, having save points after castles and ghost houses wasn't bad, because most people will play for twenty, thirty minutes. I'd also like to add that in SMW, EVERY time you beat a ghost house or castle, the option to save was given. In NSMB, you cannot save unless it is the first time you are beating the fortress or castle.

Anyway, back on point, if I'm playing for five minutes while waiting for a friend to go eat, making me play for fifteen minutes to get to the next fortress, is a bit ridiculous. This is why I am willing to accept SMW only allowing saves at certain periods of time, and being irritated at NSMB for the same.

I'd have to agree only technically because that's primarily what handhelds are used for, but once I get a handheld again (PSP if I buy it, but who knows, I may win a DS at school... Contests every 9 weeks) I'll be playing them on long trips and long waits... So, in that respect for me, it would be no different than a console. I'm sorta weird (and practical) that way, though...

Yeah, that's a very good point Kae, and I must say that now that I'm trying to go back and get all the star coins in the levels, it's bec oming harder and harder to save and that is getting rather annoying. You should be able to save every time you beat a castle like in SMW, you're right.
Oh, but the sleep mode option comes in VERY handy. :D

*cough* >_>

Sorry, Kae, but I still don't see this as a good argument (you're the only one I've really heard say this, so we'll discuss this on YIM or something).
