Just beat SH2, got the "leave" ending. This was very different from SH3...
1.It had a thicker depressing feel to it...
2. The graphics, of course, are not as good... The less impressive character models and environment effects I could handle... What I wasn't handling too well was the lighting... The lighting was horrible... And the shadow effects, too...
3. There is a lot more wandering in SH2... You'll walk on empty streets 4 or 5 minutes at a time, and there are many long hallways and backtracking... SH3 felt much tighter.
4. The story was much more specific to James; much less broad about the whole town. That was both good and bad.
5. It felt to me that there was more character interaction in SH2 than in SH3... They all had their own psychology to unravel, and they all confused me to no end...
6. The acting was, overall, not as good as SH3, I felt... James in particular made me feel he should have done something else, and Maria sounded like a porn star... Of course, maria's voice is the same as Mary's, and when she did mary's voice, it was much better... I guess she just didn't know how to do the voice of a seductive woman realistically...
7. The item collection/hit detection (for items and doors) was much worse in SH2... I got very annoyed being in the exact spot, I thought, to pick up item x, and it turns out I needed to be a tad bit over, or an item was actualy outside of the building, and the camera didn't work correctly to hilight it, like it did every time in SH3... That was very annoying and required me to read large portions of walkthroughs, which I wouldn't have had to do if it had been put together a bit better...
All in all, this game was nice, but I prefer 3... If there were than many problems that were fixed between 2 and 3, I'm wondering if the same thing exists between 1 and 2... I should have started from 1, because now I'm going to be very disappointed when I find all of these glitches and problems...

sorry, in a funny mood....
I beat SH2... I must say it is the single most depressing thing I've ever seen... I mean, There's sad (Grave of the Fireflies) then there's depressing (Silent Hill 2)
There was a sad moment in SH3, but it didn't leave me that way... It gave me a victory at the end, but not SH2... That was so depressing... They say that 4 will be darker than all of the other games... I'm not sure if I want to play it, then...
As for scary, 2 is a different kind of scary from 3... 3 is all about the environemnts and 2 was all about... Well, I mean the environments never got that bad in 2, but the outcome was very scary... His big revelation was a bit disturbing, but I could relate to him... That is a big issue, too, the moral issue behind what he did. When that video tape played, I just thought about if I were in that position... Man... That was so depressing...
So there was some repeat material, but I said a lot of new stuff...
