Doom is considered evil more for the copious amounts of blood shed than the killing demons, I think. At least, my reason for not playing it is that from the little I've seen of it, it's extremely violent and graphically bloody. I think that that is a reasonable reason for not wanting to play it or disliking the game. However, it's not like I'm boycotting id or something, and I don't consider all FPS's evil (or even Doom to be evil, for that matter, I just don't like it). Most of the angst comes when you take something reasonable (pokemon, anime, basic D&D, modern music, etc.) and say that it's evil for bizarre reasons ("Play this record backwards and you can hear the artists telling kids to become atheist commies!"). That's where the problem comes in, I think.
