Super Metroid Challenges...

Postby Slater » Sat Aug 14, 2004 2:08 pm

Let's back up 10 years people... back to 1994.
A game came out that year. It is still considdered the greatest game ever.
Super Metroid, the game that will never die.

Anyone wanna try speedrunning against me? I really want some competition here! It's like combining Singleplayer and Multiplayer, even if SM never had Muptiplayer

So, someone plz try to beat my times...

Normal speedrun: 00:52
Speedrun without wave, ice, Spazer, or plasma beams: 1:27

It is still considered (by frwl) to be the greatest game ever. I, personally, preferred the second game. I don't know why.

You honestly beat it in 52 minutes? I'm not worthy...!

What is a 'normal' speedrun?

There's any%, NBMB and 100% runs. U need to be more specific

Any% world record - 0:36
100% world record - 0:55

So if u can get below 40mins ur some pup.

yes yes, I am aware of that. I'd like to know how to do NBMB. Beating Norfair without the Variasuit seems either near impossible to me or I'm just missing some spectacular glitch... can ya help me?

Get every energy tank you can. Do the Mock ball to get Super Missiles really early. Learn Norfair inside and out so you can rip through it in no time. Master wall jump and IBJ

yeah, mockball to get supermissiles... if you don't know how to do that you can't speedrun. or have any fun for that matter. sometimes I beat Sporespawn with supermissiles just for fun.
beating the game without grapple isn't hard either. it's very easy to get into the Lost Ship without it, same with getting wavebeam.
Wall jump is mastered by me. I practiced on that area right before the grapple, now it's a piece of cake.
superjump I should work on. there's a point in Maridia (the room right before the big room with the enemies you can grapple on) where Smokey (the guy who beat the game in half an hour) superjumped up it but for some reason I can't get enough speed to pull one off... the room after that is a piece of cake tho.
I have the entire game known inside and out. when I was in 4th grade, I'd sketch the entire planet's map from memory on a blank pad of paper. But still, beating Ridley without the varia suit still sounds nigh impossible... unless... does the gravity suit guard against heat without varia? If so, I'm just stupid. If not, I ask you if it's a good idea to get the ice and wave beam, because then it's a good idea to use the murderbeam on Ridley. (it's very kewl! try it out! it looks like his tail catches on fire!) I can beat the game without either (I've beaten it with no beams... needless to say the bosses were hopelessly hard)
Wait... NBNM means not fighting ridley... or any bosses for that matter... so uhm... is there some super sekret way to get in to tourian without doing those bosses in?

alright, I'm done chatting.

You don't.

NBMB is getting as high a percentage as possible without fighting ANY bosses or mini-bosses (Torizo is an exception).

the highest is 72% by a girl called Red Scarlet (she holds the 100% record)
--------------------------

Since my SNES plug went walkies I can't play SM any more. Zero Mission is another thing however. 46:52 is my best time with about 35% items.

yes, yes... I realized that... I also screwed up by beating Spore Spawn, but that's ok, right? I did get Super Missiles before that.

and this is kinda odd... http://img46.exs.cx/img46/3076/weird.jpg

Its not really. Radix did a No varia run before and beat everyone but Kraid. Some majorly skilled gamers out there.... and I thought my getting the Varia suit in Zero Mission just have Morph Ball Bombs was cool... turns out that sequence break has already been discovered.

hah... yeah NBNM is fun, but...
well I'm getting closer to my goal. http://img33.exs.cx/img33/9372/temp5.jpg

I finaly realized that plasmaicewavechargebeam is more powerful than supermissiles... but is waveicespazerchargebeam too?

Why bother with Wave, Ice, Spazer, Charge... Once u get Plasma, use it. Except on Mother Brain, u use the Murder Beam on her.

I see what you mean now. I think it is. Would require some testing. Why don't you goto http://www.metroid2002.com and ask them? They'd know more than I would.
