stuck on FFVIII already :/

Have a video game or or VG review? This is the place to to discuss it! We also accept discussions of board games and the like, but SHHH! Don't tell anyone, OK?

stuck on FFVIII already :/

Looked quickly through a walkthrough, but sometimes those aren't too useful of things when it comes to specific things you're having troubles on... (And if i need more help in the future, I'll probably just refer back to this thread^^)

So basically, I'm at the part right after the dance where Quistis is taking Squall to the "secret place" to fight some dinos (in a convieniently depicted Jurassic Park compound :/) She says that sleep'll work against one if I add it on in my Junction menu, btu there's just one thing: I can't :/ I'm equiped with Ifrit and Selphie and Zell have the other two. But since they aren't in my party not sure how to equip one to Quistis, since apparently it won't let me, but I read that it's possible :/ But basically I go in that menu and I have no selection whatsoever to pick ANYTHING, let alone sleep (which I don't think is even on my menu). So that's dilemma number 1.

My second issue is that I want to go buy some more potions, but can't leave Garden, and since the way I do things is liking to rush through games, I haven't totally familiarized myself with that area to find a place to buy any. Don't think I can at this point anyhow, since every other place is blocked off, being curfew time. Couldn't remember where I got them in that other Bulb-whatever town, since I hurried on back.

Should I just run through the enemies in Jur- I mean the secret place and get to the story? (Read on in a walkthrough that things go on there, but not sure if fighting a T-rantaur or whatever is necessary). Also read through something about raising my SeeD rank, how does that benefit me anyhow?

Yeah... help would be nice through here^^ I'm just SO not one of those people who can handle taking HOURS to figuring stuff out about games... I'd rather know now so I can continue on^^

It's possible to get to the secret place without running into a random encounter (the secret place is nothing more than an outdoor part of the Garden where couples sit in the moonlight, so it is believed Quistis is making a move on Squall).

I believe if a character leaves the party all of his or her GFs are unequipped but I haven't played this game in 3+ years so I could be wrong.

How do you like the soundtrack?
I personally thought the boss music was horribly unfitting, but the rest of the tracks in that game pretty much blew me away.

The anime-feeling to it and the fact you attend an academy makes me like FFVIII even more.

Just to clarify, you will have to fight a boss after finding the secret place but it's incredible easy.

Find an enemy you can draw 'Cure' from and just do it 99 times. It is time consuming, but you won't have to worry about buying potions for awhile.

Oh yeha, I haven't got that draw thing either... I draw cures, but do they turn into potions or something?

Yeah... this game may take me a little bit logner than I thought to catch onto ^^;

Ok, somewhere in the pile of menus, there's a "Party" menu]My second issue is that I want to go buy some more potions, but can't leave Garden, and since the way I do things is liking to rush through games, I haven't totally familiarized myself with that area to find a place to buy any. You can get potions by killing enemies, I think. Just mess around in the Training Center until you have enough; otherwise, draw Cure from the enemies you find.

Should I just run through the enemies in Jur- I mean the secret place and get to the story? (Read on in a walkthrough that things go on there, but not sure if fighting a T-rantaur or whatever is necessary). Also read through something about raising my SeeD rank, how does that benefit me anyhow?

I would suggest fighting them and gaining some strength and magic from drawing. You'll have to fight a boss on your way out, so just try to boost some of your stats and collect more magic so you're more prepared when that comes around. n_n

Anyways, I somehow get the feeling that my post is really confusing, so if you have trouble figuring anything out, just ask for clarification! XD; Hope this helped! :D

@_@ I'll get the hang of it soon enough^^ I'm a quick learner when it comes to playing one game, and then turning around and playing a game with an entirely different setting. And this one... definately IS the most different and unique that I've encountered, so it'll just take a bit more getting used to^^

I think I'm catching on more with what you're trying to say (so my head isn't entirely spinning with junction stuffage^^) So, I'll probably start back on the game in a day or two (teh busyage...) and try to report on how things are going^^

Good luck! The junction system does take a while to get used to, but I thought it was fun and added a nice level of strategy to the game.

I'd like to stress the importance of this. A large number of the GFs are only drawable from bosses, and are easily missable, so either remember to draw from every single boss you encounter or look up a GF FAQ that has the specifics. I accidentally missed Siren (one of the earlier ones) because I forgot about this...

You will have another chance to get most of the missable ones near the end of the game, but by that point, it's not going to really matter.

wow. you guys basically summed it up. i got about 5 hours into the second disc before i got carried away and started playing another game. i didn't really like the "draw" and "junction" system they developed. i liked the regular casting of magic with MP more.

I think I'm still quite werided out that it doesn't take ANY MP whatsoever to summon your GF or use magic or anything. It's so unlimited that it's crazy! @_@ ...though I might get tired of watch the GF appearance... I enjoyed it in X, but... pretty graphics!^^ Even then, though...

Yeah, the GF animations do get old, I'll admit that. XD Fortunately, they're pretty short, so it's not too painful. But I liked the "no MP" thing, definitely. XD

The animations get old...until you get the GF Boost ability. That keeps you rivited during the sequences as you attempt to eek more power out of the summon. And when you get to the most powerful summons, like Bahamut or Eden, you get long sequences that allow you to boost the GF by huge amounts (I think I was able to get Eden, the most powerful GF in the game, up to like 250% of regular attack because of the long, but impressive, summon sequence. It even broke the 9999 attack limit...)

Whoa, now that's pretty cool. XD I never played around much with the Boost ability; I should go back someday and check it out. XD

yeah. the GFs were pretty cheap cause you could just keep using them over and over and you could just heal them with GF potions or whatever and keep using them.

Seriously, I pulled off a "Wishing Star" against Ultimecia and did far more damage.

Wishing Star is actually right up there with Lionheart.

I wouldn't call it cheap. Helpful is what I'd call it. XD Considering the fact that each character develops a "relationship" with their most often-used GFs, it's good that you can use them often.

And you can heal your GFs/Aeons in FFX, too. o_o

GF's are hardly cheap. In fact, they're largely useless except for Doomtrain, when you really start to figure out the game.

32k isn't really all that impressive, save for it being in one hit. Angel Wing and Duel can do far more, ranging from 80,000-240,000 and 32,000-432,000 per use (and per turn, in Angel Wing's case), respectively.

Ooh, it brings such joy to see a new audience for this game.

Yeah, I love not needing MP... The junction system brings a little strategy to the game, which I like. I'm playing through this game again, now. Too bad I won't be able to play the last disc... I bought it online, sans the last disc... *doh!*

Oh wow, that sucks. XD That last disc is pretty important to the game, after all. XD Have you owned a full copy in the past, and this one without the last disc is a replacement, or have you only ever had a three-disc version?
