A New Job

Well I've got to be honest (not that its hard to do for me) and share some personal situations:

I've been working at this deli for about five years now. But its has become clearly outdated for me; of all the time working here, I've only got one raise and for whatever reason, hours are hard to come by (I only work one day a week; mainly because of my academic pursuits). Around the summer time, I actually work some extra hours so the pay is fairly decent. But for two years, he talked about extending hours on the day that I work...for one day, we're open an hour longer and that was it...it was back to the same old 3 hour schedule from there on out...the only difference now from then is that I have more duties and I watch the shop while he frequently leaves about an hour early.

It's important to point out that this is a family-run business, and my boss is the owner and he's a Christian who goes to my former church. But nowadays, I just don't get that believer's vibe from him...I asked him for one Saturday off so I could attend my commencement for my Associate's Degree, but apparently he was going to take a day off that same day and acted like I was being inconvenient to him - not once, did he congratulate me. And he wants me to watch shop alone the entire shift while he goes off to get re-married next month (I've only accepted this because it means extra income).

Considering that I'm the only employee not related to him, I feel that staying any longer would do me no good...

Now that that's off my chest I want to point out the positive possibility; there's this new chain restaurant opening up in town this August and hiring does not commence until July...
It has a very good starting wage by my state's standards and flexible hours, I figured it'll more hours guaranteed and I could still attend college.
I enjoy its dining environment a lot and the best part about this location is that its still within walking distance!

I could definitely imagine myself working and making a much more comfortable salary; I could consider it to be a blessing if I can land a job here. So I'm striving to be an earlybird and apply online as soon as the opportunity rises.

I humbly ask all of you to pray that my process of changing jobs may go smoothly, that I may be persistent and patient with my current job and that God's Will will ultimately lead me to a more positive take of my working life, whatever the possibilities may be.

If you have questions about my job or possible job please feel free to PM me and I will greatly appreciate all your prayers, friends.

I just want to say that if you enter a chain, just having a Christian manager doesn't mean you'll get time off for that sort of thing either- it's not considered a good enough excuse..... Deaths in the family hardly seem like good excuses anymore, especially in this economy, to the people in charge.

Regardless, I hope that the new job does get you better hours, and that you do get those flexible hours!

Thanks! I know I made it sound like this is my only shot; I'm aware that there are other possibilities out there. As long as I can leave where I am now, I will be more content. Thanks again for your prayers and I'll certainly keep you updated. :)

A sucky job is better than no job at all. Make sure you have a job that has a good foundation for you before leaving.

Well I certainly agree with you there; I'm not leaving my current job actually considering the rough times that we are in, I'll be working two jobs if I get this one...

Well it seems that a new job is very well necessary...Yesterday, my boss told me that I was laid off.

The reason for this was because the landlord basically stopped giving the lease to him and that business is not well enough to keep me. Not to say that I did anything to trigger his decision, though. I would very much appreciate your continuance of prayer.

Lord, I know that you are ever-faithful and providing no matter what may come at us in life. And that there is always a reason why things are what they are regardless of our understanding.
I am so grateful for trusting you now and may this trust never fade away, in your name I pray.
