Mom might have cancer...

Hey guys, my mom found a lump in her breast, and apparently the doctor doing the biopsy wasn't too happy with what she saw; the results are still pending, though. She's going back in Tuesday to have some tests and see if the cancer's shown up anywhere else, and they plan to remove it in 2-3 weeks. Apparently, the lump was in a good (if you can call it that) place, where it's harder for it to spread through her body, but still.

She's already been through all this; she's survived an earlier case of breast cancer 12 years ago, and she doesn't want to do it all again, but it looks like she might have to, if the biopsy turns up something bad. If it does, it looks like she'll be going in for radiation treatment.

Anyway, just keep her in prayer. Pray that she'll be strong through this, and that she'll be healed, or that it won't be a problem after all.

David, I'll remember your mother, as well as you and your other family, in prayer. In addition to your mother's concerns, I'll be praying that Christ will bring you peace and some relief from anxiety during this time.

Definitely praying. I have an aunt who has struggled with breast cancer, so it's something my family has dealt with in the past as well. Praying that the doctors will make wise decisions and that the cancer won't spread anywhere else!

Thanks, everyone. The biopsy results don't get back until Tuesday, so until then, we won't know anything for sure.

Also, she was pretty broken up yesterday in church. Maybe it was just the support she was being shown or something; I probably shouldn't speculate about stuff I've never been through, but still, she's seemed fine outside of church or talking to other people. Anyway, keep her in prayer!

All right, so the biopsy results came back, and yes, it is cancer again. They're going to see if it's spread anywhere else over the rest of this week, and then she's going in for a lumpectomy on next Wednesday. From there, she's going into chemotherapy and radiation treatment, and if all goes well, she could be done in October.

Thanks for all your prayers and support, everyone.

So, they've done the scans, and the results weren't good. The cancer didn't spread anywhere, but they've found a couple other lumps close to the muscle. Since they don't want to damage the muscle, they're going to do a round of chemotherapy, then they're going to do a double mastectomy in September, and then they'll do another round or chemo. All this should be over by March.

It's going to be a rough few months, so just keep praying. Once again, thanks for all your prayers and support thus far.

Oh, BTW, Choklit, I'm praying for your mom too. Looks like we're going through the same sort of stuff, so if you need someone to talk to, gimme a PM.

Just a quick update: Mom's been doing chemo for the last few weeks, but recently, the drugs she's been taking have been messing with the nerve endings in her hands and feet for the last couple days (I was gone over the week, so I only now found out about it); she says it feels like they're sunburned. Anyway, she'll be needing a bit of extra prayer for a bit; thanks for all your prayers so far.

Other than that, she's been doing all right; she's got up days and down days, but on average, I think she's doing as well as could be expected. There's still a long way to go, though.

Definately praying, David!
Focus on the mountain mover and not the mountain... those words are what kept my Pastor's wife sane.

Praying for peace that surpasses all understanding about this.

So...This week, we got some big news. Mom's been done with chemo for a few weeks, and now she's going into to surgery in a couple weeks. They want to do a double radical mastectomy, but due to the scale of the surgery, they're going to split into two surgeries, one for each side. Further complicating the surgery is some of the more creative reconstruction work they had to do the first time around.

And then after all that, there's a month of recovery afterwards, radiation, and a bit of physical therapy (the surgery will remove a muscle in her chest). This'd be the time when she needs the most prayer; it's going to be pretty messy from here on out. Thanks for all your concerns and prayers; I think they've helped a lot.
