Feeling Called to be a Missionary, but scared

Ugh, I'm almost finished with my second year in college in a degree that is COMPLETELY unrelated to mission work, yet I feel that I am now being called to be a missionary.
(Just a quick rant, why couldn't I be called BEFORE I went to college?! That would be cheaper... )

Not sure how to go about telling my parents, or maybe I'm jumping the gun but even after praying about it I don't feel any different. Huh. I guess if I plan on discussing this with my father, I'm gonna need a WHOLE lotta prayer...

I'm a bit curious as to what your degree is in. I think most any degree can benefit you when going out on the mission field (i.e: You don't have to major in "missionary studies" or whatever to be used by God). Missionaries use different skills according to their talents and education to spread God's love. I'm sure you can use your degree for something.

Also, you don't necessarily need to be a missionary overseas. The Lord may be calling you to serve as a missionary right in your own community. I'll be praying things work out for you .

Thanks for the prayers everyone. My father is very supportive (Thank God ) As of right now my degree is Criminal Justice in which I wanted to be involved in law enforcement but I am currently considering Social Work. (I'll be in much prayer for this.)

Still gotta learn more about how to become a missionary as well. lol that usually helps =P. Hopefully, "through prayer and petition", I'll make the right choice!

You can absolutely be a missionary with a Criminal Justice degree. Prison guards can be pretty good missionaries to the people who are incarcerated, y'know. And quite a few inmates are people who really need it. Missionary work isn't all going to remote jungles and stuff y'know. :p

God never calls us when it is convenient. There can never be too many missionaries in the world. You should try meeting up someone who is already in the missions field and they can help you discern if this is something that God wants you to do.

I agree with Nate as well. It look like God has been preparing & educating you. Technically we're all called to "spread the Good Word" and I believe God intends for the majority of us to do just that where he put us. (Some are given callings to go to far away places.)

There's a book one of our dear friends recommended to us, which may be helpful as you seek God's will for you life. Its called, "Anointed for Business" by Ed Silvoso.

But, I think whatever path you take, weather ministering to prisoners, victims and/or both the knowledge you gained will be an invaluable asset not a waste of time. As the good book says,

"The harvest truly [is] great, but the labourers [are] few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest."
