Ah, my high school's academic team...

Well, two things, I think. If anyone's wondering what I mean by quiz bowl, academic team, etc. you can learn about what it is here if you have the time.

The team I'm on, our high school varsity team, didn't do as great as we would've hoped out at the OSSAA state competition a few weeks back in January. Today we have NAQT's state qualifying round, and the winner(s?) will go onto nationals. I was just a bit anxious inside, because I don't know how pumped up everyone will be when I get to the school to go to the university in a few minutes. So, I'm just praying that it will go as God wills it to, and this being my first prayer room thread I hope it goes over well.

The other thing is a recent death of an old academic team member, Dakota, who was two years above me for the most part. We called him "Ghost", and he always looked sickly. I had overheard here and there that he was sick a lot as well as a homebound student...And I found out recently that he died this past week. So, please pray for him, his family, and those who care about him. I found a Facebook group for him, too, and commented there...

I don't know, it always makes me feel odd to know that people close to me just wane away like that. His funeral's being held at a nearby church, I think, so I pray to God that Dakota's saved...Thank you for taking the time to read this thread if you did, I know it's a first try.

God bless you all, and God, please help both our academic team as well as those involved with Dakota's family. ><;

I will pray.

I was in quiz bowl in high school. We ended up winning the state championship and competing at the national competition in Chicago. It's a blast win or lose, so have fun!

Hehe, thanks for all the support. We ended up losing seven games in a go, but getting the first place award for small division schools. (1st out of 1 is good, no?)

I can't tell if our team's morale is down like I expected it to be, apathetic and ready to move on, or what though...Our junior varsity's freshman qualified for state in their OJAVA (?) competition, coming in third.

Chicago...Yeah, both two and one year ago the varsity was able to go there for nationals. It's still scary for me to think that I have to try and step up to the plate now that the seniors I've always relied on for certain question types are graduating...Our team performed really well, and they always seemed to be able to bounce questions back and forth like nothing. I know that I don't have to necessary "fill in" for them, and to do my best, to go for what I'm good at, but the gnawing feeling doesn't fade away.

Maybe people call this being "in someone's shadow"?

But thanks for your consideration, everybody. I overheard today that Dakota's incident might have been caused by a "complication in his [various] medications", so...Thought
I'd pass it along to those who might (like me) have suspected a much worse cause...
