Just a short time ago, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake and a subsequent 5.9 aftershock have hit very close to Port-au-Prince. Please include the already suffering people of Haiti in your prayers.

My cousin is involved with a ministry here in Texas that has orphanages in Haiti. I pray that the children and staff are safe and unharmed.

They were talking about this in the forums of another Christian site, and it was said that very little search and rescue is available. I will be praying!

How awful. I will most definately pray and ask others to pray as well. May the people of Hati experience unity with Christ in their suffering; may this anguish ultimately be sanctifying; et agnus dei, qui tollis pecata mundi, miserere nobis et dona nobis pacem (and Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on [them] and grant [them] peace)*.
*this translation is not perfect, but altering the pronouns would alter the endings of many of the words, and my Latin is rusty

This morning CNN and MSNBC are covered with what images and videos have made it out. The quake struck very close to the Capital. The presidential palace, the UN headquarters (there is a large peacekeeping mission in Haiti) a hospital, and many many residences are all collapsed. I keep seeing pictures of schoolkids digging other schoolkids out from their collapsed school. In that case, it's the same videos over and over, but it is heartbreaking.
This is a massive disaster, and if you have the funds, I encourage you to give to the Red Cross or your denomination's disaster relief program. If your denomination or church does not have a program in place, Catholic Disaster Relief, Lutheran World Relief, Episcopal Relief and Development, and Methodist Committee on Relief are all well-run organizations.
Many people in Haiti live on less than a US dollar per day, so please do not let yourself believe you can afford to give enough to make a difference.
